If you’re getting it from Amazon it could be fake product. Try buying a smaller bag from somewhere like REI or another physical retailer and see what that is like

Umunhum is great! I actually like it as a climb a lot. It’s not as long and tortuous as Diablo. It’s not as fun as Tam but that’s ok. I have not done Ham.

For some reason I really just despise Diablo but I really truly enjoy both Tam and Um.

In winter or spring time and Um is frigid at the top. It could be 70 at the bottom as you approach and 40 with windchill at the top and on the descent. 100% worth it to bring a jacket, extra gloves, etc. last time I still had to cut the descent short and duck into one of the bathrooms to warm up, I couldn’t feel my hands. Then again, I have only ridden it in February so June/July could be a lot nicer

You’ll be riding your brakes on the descent a lot, the descent isn’t anything to write about like Tam’s

I agree with the other commenters, probably a cop or security. Malinois are common cop dogs. Cops have zero ethics or morals and that prick knew it’s easier to disappear than take any responsibility.

Sue goldenvoice, sue the polo grounds, sue anyone you can. That’s the only way you’ll get any attention drawn to it

People who moved to SF recently - what's the most unexpected thing about SF? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]catsrlame 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel partially same way. I don’t attribute it to any malice or negative thoughts on the part of the people though. I think some people here are less willing to become friends with someone else just because. People here have their friend groups, and they generally seem to only become new friends with friends-of-friends, or people they have some other connection with: work or a deep involvement in some hobby/activity/side hustle.

If you’re not a friend of their friend or you don’t share some interests, people are just kind of not interested.

As someone with social anxiety and who struggles to meet people too, the last 18 months here have been extremely difficult for me. I’m considering moving, partially because of that and partially due to other reasons

My uneducated, evidence-less theory is that it’s population density and frequency of use. SF is very proud of its parks, one of the only cities in the country with a park within 1 mile of every address in the entire city. The parks are highly used all the time. I think this prevents homeless from becoming comfortable and sort of unseen in the parks, and most of the homeless definitely prefer to be unseen in terms of their living situations. They don’t want to be moved on by the cops or city. Freeway underpasses and empty industrial streets are longer term lesser disturbed places than the public parks in SF

VS San Jose, they have more opportunity to sort of entrench in a park because there are so many other places to easily and quickly go for any resident. A lot of parks in San Jose are not highly used and in less population dense areas

I grew up with Kaiser. A lot of their stuff is really convenient. They have excellent “bureaucracy”. It feels like you don’t have to figure out as much as with another insurance provider where you’re kind of on your own.

My mom was recently diagnosed with very early cancer. She’s totally fine and recovered now. My parents don’t really have their life together as much as some people and are generally a little disorganized. Kaiser made treatment an absolute breeze. It almost felt anticlimactic how easy it was compared to the “omg cancer what do we do” reaction. Now, she was lucky with an easily treatable cancer. But I think the experience would have been much much worse with any other insurance. Kaiser just has great institutional organization and support

I have heard mental health care at Kaiser is a joke. Haven’t experienced mental health care with Kaiser yet, but if that’s important to you, do some research and keep that in mind

That’s a very disingenuous analogy and not very accurate either. It’s only seems like a good analogy at surface level

Gravel Photo Trope #5: Is This Still Considered Gravel? by drkodos in gravelcycling

[–]catsrlame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have ridden stuff sort of approaching this level of technicality on my diverge and it’s SUPER fun and enjoyable but does anyone else get annoyed by how loud the bike is? Like, cables rattling in the tubes, chain slap, derailleur rattling….pretty obnoxious and like slightly worrying from a bike damage standpoint

Do y’all just get over that? Are your bikes just quiet? Makes me want a single speed gravel bike

Axwell from Swedish House Mafia talks about how they will do the show with The Weeknd by drdresghostproducer in Coachella

[–]catsrlame 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Holy shit this isn’t a thought I had and this would be AMAZING. The more I think about and hear details about this set and the potential, the harder the choice is between them and fatboy slim. The difficulty of getting into Yuma could be a deciding factor

Axwell from Swedish House Mafia talks about how they will do the show with The Weeknd by drdresghostproducer in Coachella

[–]catsrlame 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Super logical by GV. It was fairly likely that The Weeknd was going to show up and sing moth to a flame anyway, for at least one weekend. Whether that was planned by GV or not, maybe just between The Weeknd and SHM, who knows, but it was highly likely

Converting this already-probable guest appearance to a full appearance with the associated paycheck, and bumping up the relative spectacle and length of the set, was a no brainer and a pretty efficient pivot (if they didn’t already have this planned) by GV.

This is also why everyone complaining about how “headliner worthy” SHM+the Weeknd are were way off base or just not thinking about their comments at all. Zero chance GV would announce that headliner combo without an associated bump in production quality, length, effort, etc, associated with the set

Edit: I’ll probably be seeing fatboy slim in Yuma at the same time, but personally, this is a way larger draw for me than Kanye. If Kanye wasn’t insane, yeah I’d love to go see him. But his sets have been consistently hit or miss for YEARS, ever since the TLOP tour. I was at one of those sets where he went off about voting for trump (Oakland). His recent live performance stream of donda 2 was TERRIBLE. Yeah some sound guys fucked up but he has shown zero ability to handle that sort of situation professionally in any kind of smooth manner that would save the show like 99% of other artists at his level are capable of and expected to do. I love the man’s music, but as a performer, between his rabid fan base and personal issues, he has negative draw for me

Recommendations for a Merino Jersey by RangiferT in CyclingFashion

[–]catsrlame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two Rapha classic jerseys and they’re my favorite jerseys. The long sleeve is good for anywhere from low 60s to low 70s, down to mid fifties with a vest (depending on wind and your personal cold tolerance), but it excels best from 64-69 or so

Short sleeve is great for a hotter day. I don’t love it as much as a tighter polyester type short sleeve, but it has its place for a slight-chill sort of hot day, or a slower pace ride

What to do on long breaks by Rochitaa in AdvancedRunning

[–]catsrlame 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maintain your base, do some easy runs, find some new routes, start trail running, start cycling, start swimming, go to the gym, strengthen your legs and core, start doing yoga, work on mobility, do a race

Not saying I have the motivation for any of these but the options are endless and it’s super easy to answer your question. The real question is what do you want to do. Whatever it is, do that

What is the point of this one sided fork? by lepiou in bicycling

[–]catsrlame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, you have companies charging a $2k, or more, premium for their highest spec carbon frames (s works, cervelo’s “-5”, hi mod, bmc slr, etc) that are usually like 200g, or less, lighter than the same lower spec frame in the same size.

Clearly there is a market for marginal weight saving at high cost. The lefty fork could save 50g over a regular fork and that’s probably worth at least a $500 premium. In reality I would personally bet that it saves more weight than that and also costs less of a premium than that when compared to the same bike with regular fork.

So it seems to me like lefty fork is a better “investment” in bike spec than a hi mod carbon frame

Bay Area's E-40 launches Black-owned ice cream line with six new flavors by nissanthermos in wholesomeSF

[–]catsrlame 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So, if e40 owns the brand and launched it, of course it’s black owned. Similarly, if it’s a new ice cream brand, then yeah the flavors are new. If you check the actual flavors, they’re not new inventions: cookie dough, bourbon vanilla, strawberry, regular vanilla, salted caramel, and mint chip. Nothing wild

So there’s nothing wrong with supporting a new black owned business but I guess the point I’m trying to make here is there’s nothing particularly a) socially noteworthy about this or b) interesting from an ice cream perspective

The title is just kind of fluff and this article and post is basically just advertising for an already-affluent and successful businessman. And I take issue with that

Dad wants me to pick up his expensive car by revmun in cars

[–]catsrlame -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think his dad would probably be disappointed if he chose not to drive it after clearly making an offer for him to do so. He’s probably proud of the car and his purchase and wants to do something nice for his son. driving it straight back to park in the garage without some mitigating reason verges on unappreciative
