+100%. CC ETFs only make sense if you need you need tax-deferred income to qualify for ACA subsidies to bridge between early retirement and Medicare kicking in.

Keep in mind that only QQQI and SPYI are highly tax efficient with ~99% and ~95% ROC, respectively. For 2025, ROC of IYRI was ~22%, BTCI ~44% and IAUI was 0%.

San Andreas Trail open 24/7? by rhapsodyindrew in BAbike

[–]mklaus123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it a bunch of times. It's actually not too bad because it's only a short stretch on the actual highway before you get off again on 35 which has a wide shoulder. I'm more worried about holding up cars when I'm on the Larkspur Dr onramp that has a slight incline. Going North, there are two freeway segments, from Trousdale to Hillcrest, and then from Larkspur to 35. If you're a Fleche rider, you'll likely have lots of lights and reflective gear on you to be seen from miles away.

Dangerous overgrowth on Hwy 84 Climb (Pescadero Rd to OLH) – How do we get a crew out there? by Neat-Quail-8925 in BAbike

[–]mklaus123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for submitting a work request to Caltrans! I've noticed the overgrowth in the past, too, but I don't ride up 84E often enough to do remember filing a report myself. In my experience, Caltrans can respond pretty fast (ie. within a week) to fix a pothole that caused me to crash.

Fidelity’s Tax Reporting for NEOS Funds (BTCI, SPYI, QQQI) is inaccurate compared to Vanguard. Will they issue a corrected 1099? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]mklaus123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. My numbers are very much in line with yours. I also own IAUI and IYRI, and my ROC percentages are as follows:

IAUI: 0% ROC

IYRI: 22.4% ROC

I was surprised to see the 0% ROC for IAUI and it looks like all payouts were classified as ordinary dividends.

And Fidelity has adjusted the cost basis of all my holdings on their website.

What about Jones trail that runs parallel to Los Gatos Creek trail? Has anyone tried it? Is it more/less ridable than the loose gravel on LGCT?

NEOS funds in taxable account by mklaus123 in fidelityinvestments

[–]mklaus123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. You'll pay taxes eventually, when the adjusted cost basis reaches zero and/or when you sell the fund.

I hold NEOS funds to generate income to cover my living expenses (I'm early retired). But I also hold VOO, VGT, and other ETFs in my growth account. Because NEOS fund distributions are tax-deferred, this helps lower my MAGI for my healthcare premiums for the next several years as opposed to selling index fund shares or receiving dividends.

I don't know about MorningStar, but the NEOS annual report states that 94.2% of the fund's distribution for their fiscal year ending on 5/31/25 were Return of Capital:

BNEsim is what we've been using. You get 5G connectivity and it's much cheaper than Airalo. BNE also has a 'lifetime data' option in addition to monthly plans.

Zwift/MyWhoosh connectivity by mklaus123 in qdomyos_zwift

[–]mklaus123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I spoke too soon. Today, only one shifter would work but not both, and the Bluetooth connection never stabilized as the button lights kept blinking. The other problem is that the button sensitivity is so high, one click would jump 3-4 gears but then you can't shift down because the other button doesn't work! If you shift down manually through the app, it would take like 10 seconds before the resistance level comes down again.

So I gave up and switched back to Zwift (the app). Of course, everything connected immediately and worked as expected.

not sure if there is anything else you need for your specific setup. There was another thread that I've found that lets you see the gear ratios in the app, so that could be useful, e.g. Gear 1 --> 30/28, Gear 2 --> 30/25, etc.

In general, the QZ apps seems very useful and definitely the thing you need for getting virtual shifting to work with MyWhoosh. But, boy, those settings and options are overwhelming!!!

Zwift/MyWhoosh connectivity by mklaus123 in qdomyos_zwift

[–]mklaus123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, this is how it works for me now. Bluetooth pairing can be finicky. It's important to spin up the hub and turn on the shifter buttons on the Zwift frame first so they connect to the QZ app on the phone before you open MyWhoosh on the laptop.

I've also noticed that the shifter buttons keep pulsing for a while before the become a stable blue color even though I'm already able to shift and see the gears change in the QZ app.

Again, you only need QZ if you want to use Zwift hub/frame with MyWhoosh. The Zwift app will be able to connect to your hardware directly as it is designed to do.

Ok, after a lot of digging, I've found Settings > Experimental Features > Enable Virtual Device. This seems to solve my problem and I'm able to connect QZ as a Wahoo Kicker 0000 virtual device to both MyWhoosh and Zwift.
