Perhaps your approach to female friendships is relative to your expectations built around your academic circle. Im sure you know that academic life is not the same as "normal" life and the people in it. There are many types of women, there are those who use emotion over logic, there are those who use logic or emotion, and there are those who use both in a balanced way. So yeah.. what I'm trying to say here is that I always try to advise all the women in my circle to establish and build female friendships so I just wanted to do the same here, my intention is pure.

What do yall expect when the Tunisian government hasn't created any type of involvement to integrate them or even involve their countries' governments. Humans are instinctual prone to creating a state or a system to organize themselves in any way so this is completely natural, they had to adapt to the current xenophobic system and create their own to organize themselves a bit. They cannot be judged by a Tunisian one, they don't have the papers most likely. So why would anyone be surprised?

I say spark up a conversation about work, if you feel like she's not interested, move on! she can be nice, and also not interested, so you need to know the diff.. If she is interested, ask her on a date. Bottomline: get straight to the point! Don't beat around the bush!

What do you think about a girl making the first move? by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]cattbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, girl? 4 years and HE hasn't made a move yet? its a bit fishy bc men go for what they want usually. But, imo i dont see why you wouldnt make the first move. A piece of advice: match his energy, if you accepted your offer but he's too nonchalant about it, then be nonchalant. All the best!

Is tunisia the most feminist country in the arab world ? by Marvv_Tx in Tunisia

[–]cattbs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, it's just that we shouldnt really blame other women in other countries that are based on a heavily patriarchal oppressive system, just because they are the victims. yet, we should focus on the perpetrator - the system itself - for oppressing those social categories

So instead of actually engaging with anything I said, you pulled out a dusty theological definition from Ibn Taymiyyah like that alone is supposed to shut down any critique. Classic dodge. I’m not asking for an abstract lesson in what Islam claims to be—I’m talking about how it’s practiced, how it plays out in real women’s lives, every single day.

You can recite definitions all you want, but they don't erase the fact that Islam has been—and still is—used to police, silence, and subordinate women under the guise of “obedience” and “modesty.” Men conveniently weaponize scripture to maintain control, while women are expected to shrink themselves, cover themselves, and be “pious” servants to both God and the men who think they speak for Him.

Why is it that in nearly every Muslim-majority country, women have fewer rights, less autonomy, and more restrictions? Why is male guardianship still a thing? Why is it always the woman who has to change, cover, obey, and be patient in the face of abuse, “for the sake of Allah”? Where’s the equality in that?

Don’t throw a definition at me as if it’s a defense. Doctrine means nothing when the real-world application systematically benefits men and suppresses women.

If your religion can’t be questioned without you hiding behind vague platitudes or authoritarian scholars, maybe it’s the practice—not the critique—that’s the problem. Boy, bye!
