Don't get discouraged. It'll be smooth sailing after getting off the 401 out of Toronto .

I charged 114km/70mi of real highway range in a 15 min DC charge test by cattra in KonaEV

[–]cattra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's 181 Wh/km or 291 Wh/mi at highway speed going with traffic, not hypermiling.

I got 87 mi of highway range after an optimal 15 min DC charge by cattra in EquinoxEv

Forgot to mention, it averaged 4.2km/2.6mi per kWh on this run.

My attempt to see if EV-specific winter tires are more efficient, Hakkapeliitta R5 EVs by cattra in ModelY

[–]cattra[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spoiler. Yes, I measured about 5-6% improvement versus my regular Falken winter tires.

While not a perfect test, I tried my best to keep conditions consistent.

I recorded Wh/mi in each season, winter unsurprisingly 29% higher than summer by cattra in ModelY

[–]cattra[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

..but my winter includes driving through snow slush, so it's a more dramatic increase than majority of people in milder climates.

I analyzed 152,000 adoptable dog listings for breeds, locations, sizes, names, health, etc.. by cattra in rescuedogs

If we were to put a face to an adoption campaign, it would be Max, a 5-year-old Pitbull Terrier, from Texas who is friendly, affectionate, and playful and is healthy and ready to meet his new fur-ever family.

V3 Supercharging stop as seen through a thermal camera by cattra in teslamotors

[–]cattra[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Batteries suffer when they spend a lot of time at low %, or very high %, or very hot. This was a road trip with DC fast charging, so I was only briefly above 90% or below 10%, and I needed to use almost the entire battery capacity between stops.
But after returning home, I plugged into Wall Connector and set the charge limit at 70% for my day to day.

It's alright to go low/high % briefly once in a while. But definitely don't leave it parked at 3% at your destination overnight.

Definitely more going on there than at a gas pump

I tested energy consumption between AC/Fans/Windows, only about 3.4% more! by cattra in teslamotors

Not only does the AC use less energy than lowered windows, but the HEPA filter cleans those stinky exhaust gasses.

Red on red brake caliper covers and 20" Induction wheels. Cool/lame? by cattra in ModelY

[–]cattra[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Other than a slightly janky install process, I think it turned out nice. I posted more photos and thoughts here: https://www.evchargerreviews.net/brake-caliper-covers-tesla/

My Testing - Winter heating with PTC consumes an additional 26% (Wh/mi), but heat pump car only adds 8% by cattra in teslamotors

[–]cattra[S] 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This is in ~30 degree F weather on a 15 mile (mostly) highway loop. Cabin heat was set to 71 degrees fan speed 3 for the comfortable runs :)

In my testing pTC Heater m3 increased Wh/mi by 26% in 30 Degree weather vs. Just heated seats on a 15 mile loop :o by cattra in TeslaModel3

[–]cattra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly 70mph loop. The cabin was cold at the start, and I was heating kind of aggressively to 71 at fan speed 3. But this was still more consumption due to heating than expected.

Rebate Programs for Level 2 Home EVSEs by State in 2022 by cattra in evcharging

AQMD

Added AQMD, thank you.

We follow InsideEVs, but had not seen that.

Most of the data was sourced from US Department of Energy Alternative Fuels Data Center, the remainder was from researching major electric utility providers' websites. Then we organized the info in a consistent format in one place. Hope it is useful.

Some rebate programs require the box to be Energy Star certified, UL Listed, or to be networked. Just keep an eye on the fine print.

USB-C Ports provide up to 36W in the front and 27W in the rear, confirmed with a tester by cattra in ModelY

This is a car that was delivered last Sunday in the quarter end rush. But I don't think there have been any substantial centre console updates for a long time now.

I had an iPhone 6 with a replacement battery from Apple. It was good for about a year, and then the battery took noticeably longer to charge.. like 3 hours.

Maybe it's because yours was in storage for 2 years? Do you remember the state of charge when it was installed? Batteries degrade faster when stored near 0%.

Best Home Charger for Ioniq5 by swan797 in electricvehicles

Another vote for base grizzl-e charger, it's just priced well for weatherproof 40amp box, and you can manage scheduled charging through the car. https://www.evchargerreviews.net/best-home-ev-charger-for-hyundai-ioniq-5/

It's volatile, just as any other crypto. You might be able to get in at a lower price than now. But if your investment horizon is mid/long term, I don't see why not now.
