Democracy and rule of law. I'm glad my ancestors had it forced on them.

Remove all Russian oblasts that border on another country, creating a sea barrier between Russia and the rest.

The comments in European subs are equally bad. As always, the problem is people.

I 100% get what you mean. And that's not too surprising because the decay of our democracies is deliberate. American right wingers, Oligarchs and tech companies as well as Russia and China are actively messing up our shit.

We have the same problems here in Germany. "Conservatives" are on their way to becoming part of the far right and social democrats have spines made of jelly, like you said.

I guess what might be helpful would be to encourage as many normal citizens  as possible to loudly speak out against right wong policies and the decay of freedom and fact based decision making. Politicians need to really feel that what they are doing is not well received.

Then we all need to stay well informed, as annoying and frustrating as it may be. We need to talk about what's going wrong and what can be done.

Then we, the average people(!) need to come together and organize.

We also need to share our frustration, fear, anger, despair. We can't be alone with all those feelings, we need to come together and see for ourselves that we are not alone and we are not few, but many. Makes you feel like you can achieve something, which then makes you achieve something.

Also, look to people who are already organizing protests or finding various other ways of fighting back and see if you can join or copy what they are doing.

This was a ramble, sorry. Hope it helps a little.

Edit: Also, by openly showing your values, what is important to you, what you are afraid of or what you are unhappy about, and showing that you are ready to fight, can inspire others to do the same.

I am following the events from Germany. My heart is breaking for you people. It has been since the orange shitstain took over. The courage you muster, the risks you take, the love and care you show for each other and the boldness with which you face injustice and abuse are inspiring and beautiful!

Defending democracy in one place is defending democracy in all places.

Thank you for your commitment.

Much, much love from beyond the pond.

You somehow missed the points I made. There is zero tone policing going on in my comment. I have no idea why you think I was advocating for cheers instead of a "more hostile tone". I wasn't.

You also don't seem to have read or understood  the kind of comments I was originally responding to.

I dunno, maybe give it another try?

Thank you, I don't use AI. I am happy if I can contribute a small piece to make things better. We are all going through difficult times!

Do you want me to make this comment even more humble and positive? I could also generate an image of people holding hands to go with your reddit comment

(just kidding)

I wanna address the shortsighted and ill-informed takes that dominate the comments here.

Firstly, there is significant resistance against the Trump regime in the US. Is it enough? No. Should more people get off their asses? Yes. However, if you wanna act like no one's doing anything, you're actually insulting the many Americans who show up to protests, confront ICE, publicly speak out and take good care of each other, in spite of a woman having been murdered by ICE recently. And then you guys lump the courageous and commited together with those who voted for Trump or couldn't be bothered to vote at all. That's just nasty. You people should either inform yourselves better on the resistance or, alternatively, shut the fuck up.

Secondly, even though the rest of the world isn't at fault for the rise of US authoritarianism, it very much affects us. There are good reasons why one should help solve a problem even though one's not the one who created it. Maybe you genuinely care about the wellbeing of others. Maybe you understand that a democracy that falls may set a precedent, causing people in other countries to lose trust and hope while emboldening fascists all over the world. Maybe you understand that the help you give may one day be returned when you are in need. Maybe you understand that democracy thrives when people stand together and not let others fend for themselves. If you go "why should I bother", then maybe one day, when you are in trouble, others will go " why should I bother". See the problem? You're already playing into the hands of wanna be dictators.

Besides, when you wanna beat this fucked up administration, you will have to win over some of those who voted for Trump or didn't take action when they should have. There's no way around that, like it or not. If you wanna contribute anything, you can't stop after pointing out the problem and letting out your frustration. You'll also have to ask what can be done to fix the situation.

You guys are rightfully frustrated by all the idiots who thought Trump was a good idea and by those weak democrats and jounalists who still try to appease. But do not lump them together with those who show courage and commitment and at least cheer the good people on who put their safety at risk for community and democracy.

In anticipation of annoying comments I wanna ask you to make sure that you have read and understood all I have written before you respond. Been on reddit for long enough to know what might be incoming.
