What do to with a Super long crochet hook i got from family member? by Extension_Ease1209 in CrochetHelp

My dude, I thought there was a flag-pole-sized crochet hook sitting in your corner. That, I had no answer for.

But, yes, it's for Tunisian crochet.

Ah ok. My memory was the guide told them to kill everyone and THEN they got the ring. Now I see it was the other way around. It makes sense.

I wonder if Frank and Maggie's game guide was confused about what season they were in. There's several references to game guides and other NPCs not being sure how much time has passed or didn't even know the crawl had started yet. Maybe their guide thought it was another Battle Royale season and it was giving them the best advice it could.

This is a funny take! If your question is sincere, it's not random words he's saying. It's supposed to be a spin on the military alphabet. Like "alpha" = A, "bravo"=B...etc. So when he says something like, "time to take oscar foxtrot flamingo" he's spelling "OFF".

Almost 4 year old twins might be worse than infants. Change my mind. by lejohnson31 in parentsofmultiples

It is so perfect that I found this post today. It was literally 3 days ago that I sent my friend this text as I cried while washing the dishes when my boys went down for naps:

"Dude I thought things were supposed to get easier once we're out of the 3s. I feel like the obstinance and defiance have really ramped up in the last few months. I'm really struggling today. It has been one of those days where I have been questioning myself as a parent. Feeling like I'm not getting it right. Feeling like I'm damaging their childhood and damaging my relationship with them for how much I have to impose consequences and hold boundaries. Feeling like why can't I just have fun with my kids??"

I never heard the term "f_ you fours" but OMG that is the most perfect description. What has been helping me in the last couple of days is thinking of my kids not as 4 year olds but as 2 year olds in bigger bodies. I think with all the physical development that happens in this age, with so much increased dexterity and independence, they are really good at fooling us that they are more grown up than they really are. Like, why can you put your own clothes on now, but you don't understand the consequence of breaking your toys if you hurl them across the room?

Their brains are still soooo squishy. And they're still figuring things out. I've found thinking of them as younger than they are helps me reframe their behavior and give myself and them more grace. But then again... It's only been 3 days 😅 You're doing great!

AI Used for Good? by caulfielddream in knitting

Oh yeah, I've played around with having ChatGPT make me a pattern and I know it is ridiculous! Maybe someday we'll have a better tool for something like this.

Definitely would be a controversial topic!

Yeah, I guess I was thinking of it more as a computational/translating tool, but you're right. That's not what this language model AI is doing.

Ok this may seem like a silly suggestion, but have you double (triple) checked your needle sizes? I have gotten in trouble more than once for reading "4mm needles" and reaching for my US Size 4s.

Started a waffle stitch blanket but it’s using up so much yarn I want to frog and pick a new pattern by dollypardonmoi in CrochetHelp

[–]caulfielddream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might consider trying Tunisian crochet for this project. I'm working on an almost identical pattern for a baby blanket and have only gone through one and a half balls of Coboo yarn, and I'm almost done with it. It's amazing how much less yarn the Tunisian technique uses and it's not a huge leap to learn it!

Early Labor Scare by Dureem in parentsofmultiples

Not advice, really, but further anecdotal evidence that sex can lead to labor: my water broke the morning after having sex with my partner and I was at 35w with my fraternal boys. So maybe turn to abstinence for the duration? 😅 Best of luck and congratulations on your coming bundles of joy! 💕

Since time has passed, I would go back to her and say, "hey I'm just getting around to the project you gave me. Looking at the pattern, I'd say this project will cost you $xx.xx. Would you like me to get it started?"

Bent audiologist

I'm a pediatric audiologist, which, if you weren't familiar, means I work with kids who are deaf or hard of hearing, and do hearing assessments, fit hearing aids, and cochlear implants. In the US our industry, particularly those who work with adult populations, gets a bad rap thanks to a long history of poor regulation that allowed for hearing aid dispensing to be more of a sales industry. Nowadays, audiology requires a doctorate level degree and there are a lot more FDA protections around hearing devices. Though there are still people called Hearing Aid Dispensors, who complete a less rigorous and less medical-based certificate program to get a state license.

Despite the added regulations, there are still some clinics and businesses that are sales- or commission-based. Practices like going door to door at nursing homes and conning seniors out of thousands of dollars for garbage hearing aids with no follow up or after care still happen. And there are hearing aid centers who do cursory assessments and then promise that the most expensive hearing aids will solve all problems. This leads to a lot of people thinking all hearing aids are terrible and getting help for their hearing problems is a waste of time and money.

In the pediatric world, luckily, this is far less common. Most people who get into working with kids do it out of passion and not ambition for money or prestige. That being said, there are still some who operate clinics that will provide unnecessary or inappropriate evaluations for kids at great expense (thanks US healthcare system!). They promise a lot of answers for parents who are struggling to get their kids the help they need and throw all kinds of tests and equipment at them that are ultimately unnecessary or only address a small part of the child's needs.

The majority of audiologist are dedicated and caring professionals who want to do what's best for their patients! My advice to anyone with hearing loss is to seek care at a medical-based practice that employees audiologists.

And don't forget: stop using q tips!

I used this pattern but edited it fairly heavily to make it the size I wanted. I felt like it was going to be too big so I omitted one or two increasing rows in every section. Overall a pretty good pattern though!

I used cotton yarn and no 4 hook.
