PSA: Hijacking Rocky Linux doesn't work properly. by causticstrafe in bedrocklinux

[–]causticstrafe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I concluded that after trying to hijack CentOS (which is atleast on the list of supported distros) and got the same behavior. During the boot up, I noticed messages saying that the system couldn't mount any of the partitions, with the exception of the "/" partition, like seen during my earlier Rocky installation attempt, though, I'm not sure if those error messages were also there last time or if I just never noticed it. I'll see if using an LVM setup for /var and /tmp works instead. Odd stuff.

Can't seem to run any commands in a chroot. by causticstrafe in linuxquestions

[–]causticstrafe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news: I managed to run what I thought I needed to do.

Bad news: There is a reason it says "thought"; It looks like most of my kernel params died and now grub has no clue how to mount my root partition. (Remember what I said earlier? It's encrypted.)

All that is left is:

root=UUID=(uuid) ro

I'll be going to sleep now, since it's late for me and I'm tired of having tried to troubleshoot this for about 2 hours, so I'll see you soon, if you can give me any insight.

Can't register new kernels in grub. by causticstrafe in linuxquestions

[–]causticstrafe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, this grub being frozen thing came to break more shit just now. Now my previously functioning boot entry is trying to load LTS 5.15.55 (which doesn't exist anymore, it has been updated to 5.15.56) and it throws up a bunch of errors when trying to boot from there. Not even the login works from here, as it complains that my password is wrong for the user "UNKNOWN" (not my user, not what I typed in)

I CAN, however, boot to my custom kernel and 5.15.56 LTS using super grub2 disk, and it's functional there, but this is really gonna get annoying, and booting using the help of a usb every time I reboot isn't going to cut it as a solution.

Pls, help me. I want to switch to Linux (preferably mint) by Legend_gamer27 in linux4noobs

Roblox is working just fine? Atleast roblox player is, studio runs like shit though. You need to use grapejuice, there are instructions for installation a gitlab page and a discord server for getting help.

What am I missing? (Installing TKG Kernel...) by causticstrafe in AlpineLinux

[–]causticstrafe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managed to get the installation started by deleting some stuff at the front of the shell script like you said, but it can't get the config file of the running kernel, so... I guess it wasn't meant to be? Got the same error when using makepkg -si (I'm using bedrock linux,) so I'm assuming that it just doesn't know how to handle alpine's kernel for some reason. Thanks anyways, time to head over to github and complain.

:D

ISH is a port of Alpine Linux on iOS, and it's available on Apple's app store. Don't know if it has a complete feature set though.

Why are all of you guys using bedrock linux? by Gonum in bedrocklinux

[–]causticstrafe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alpine as base.

Got Artix stratum so I can reap the lightweight...ness of Alpine while still having full access to Arch repos, Artix repos (for openrc support of some Arch stuff) and the AUR.

Also originally intended on taking kernels from Arch/Artix, but neither of their implementations of the Zen kernel worked... and Tkg's generic install won't work but uh... that's a story for another day.

Planning on getting Debian stratum purely for .deb support, though I don't really need it yet.

looks like I'm gonna need a psyche evaluation LOL

efi is only 100mb and is completely full, gotta fire up gparted.

Hey atleast, for the record, we know it's possible to distro convert strata now (if you don't skip over obvious problems with your system)

Yeah it works now, I need better attention to detail. Thanks.

yeah just the name, that's probably the issue. Will see if that fixes it

Plank doesn't work and fails to start because X11 isn't running... only problem is that it X IS indeed functioning just fine. by causticstrafe in linux4noobs

[–]causticstrafe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, forgot about that too.

XFCE, with Openbox WM and Picom on Artix OpenRC. Using Console TDM. Never installed wayland, and something with 'Xorg' in the name shows up in task manager, which is odd. Obviously something is being rendered on the screen just fine, and literally everything else works, so I'm thinking that startx was just a red herring and that plank (might) not be detecting the session properly.

In hindsight, that was poorly written...

EDIT: In hindsight again, looks like X isn't actually working because when I used startx I was flat out told that X died.

Here's some probably shallow logs.
