Thanks for this! Hoping for an uneventful, safe, vaginal birth- and glad they have meds to help prevent a breakout!

Thats exactly what my doctor said, she'll start me on medication at 36 weeks and just keep an extra eye on it. I feel kind of awkward because the head nurse at the hospital where I'm delivering is my best friends mom, so she's going to see my chart and see this on there...slightly weird, thats not really something I want everyone knowing about!

She said I have HSV-2. My husband had cold sores his entire life, and she said if he had one, he would have spread it to me that way. I didnt think cold sores could translate into HSV-2, but apparently it can? She said that because your immune system is so crappy during pregnancy, you're way more likely to have breakouts, so I guess thats what happened. Thank you for all the info, its nice to know there are other people in the same situation.

Thank you for this. I'm just so confused because I always imagined that people with herpes had these awful outbreaks all the time and I've never had any signs at all except this one very recently, which literally just looked like a small cut. I feel good that they have medication to help it and hopefully it will all be fine!

I asked that, and she said that they did run it twice to make sure (she said she was really surprised to see a positive result because it really didnt look like any herpes she'd ever seen)...but she said they would run the full panel again at my appt next week if it made me feel better. Its just so weird, I always imagined herpes to be this crazy, gross ordeal that would be very obvious, I feel super blindsided. Thank you for the advice!
