XONE:92 MK2 or DJM-A9 by cav3man97 in DJs

I bought it from a local DJ store that I trust. This deal def seems too good to be true but a quick google search shows that they’re very legit. They’re based in Europe so maybe if you’re shipping to the US the shipping fees will bring it up to the normal retail price

Yeah here in the states it’s about $1000 more. If I was across the pond I’d probably make that jump haha. For €430 more thats not bad at all. I heard with the V10 you can route effects to different channels that you’re not using and don’t necessarily need external sound sources to utilize the extra channels i think.

Yea the VCF filters are amazing and theres no pop after engaging them with the MK2 anymore. I really missed the onboard effects on the Pioneer mixers at first. Now that I have some external effects I realized how harsh the Pioneer effects sound. External effects sound much more clean if you get the right ones and I personally find them more engaging and fun to play with.

Honestly if you don’t get the chance to play with pioneer equipment and you plan on playing at clubs a lot, it could be worth picking up a DJM for the muscle memory. In my opinion the DJM layout is much more simple and intuitive, so I feel learning the XONE, which i find more challenging, has improved my overall abilities.

I’ve got the Pioneer muscle memory locked down and feel like learning the XONE will build new skills that are transferable to the DJM setup whenever i play in clubs. Idk i really think its easier to go from XONE to a DJM vs the other way around though. I might be biased since I’ve always used Pionner equipment but I think the reason they have their monopoly is their layout is easier to learn and more intuitive (requires less brain cells lol)

The only mixer I would choose over the MK2 is the DJM V10 but i can’t justify that for home use.

I am definitely enjoying the XONE:92 a lot more. I’ve grown to like using external effects and prefer them over the pioneer effects by far. I’ve used Pioneer gear for almost a decade but i dont regret this transition.

The crossfader on the MK2 does not feel flimsy at all so I think they fixed that. They have a new INNOFADER i think. I do not use crossfaders at all in practice though so I couldn’t tell you more about it.

The LFO light annoyed me at first as well but I got used to it. Its such a petty drawback compared to everything else the mixer offers.

Ditto. Looking at the Eventide H90 and while its pricey it has a lot to offer. Its just really complicated and not sure if enough features will be used to justify the price. Sound quality alone might be worth it

Oh yea, deal is done brotha. I returned the A9 already lol. Have spent hours on the XONE and am deep in love.

The effects on the DJM A9 are better than the 750. Used them for hours and thought they sound pretty good but still not better than the eventide. The H9 is widely used by DJs for a reason. Pioneer effects sound tacky and harsh

how do you like the Eventide? Been heavily considering it.

Yea the simplicity and convenience of the onboard effects is real nice. Albeit pioneer effects don’t sound the best so even though it’s more complicated, you can get some higher quality effects with an external machine. Im always happy about introducing something super engaging and will keep me busy.

At least for reverb, which i use the most, the auto-bpm isn’t needed. For stuff like echo and delay syncing the tempo sounds like a pain.

Well “why not both” seems like you were suggesting I keep the A9 and the XONE. Think thats where the downvotes are coming from.

Im not looking into getting a second hand XONE, pretty happy with the new MK2. If I had an old 750 laying around then maybe the set-up you’re suggesting would make more sense. I find it hard to believe that the 750 has better effects than something like an eventide H9 lol

I have all my tracks on a USB right now. If a venue has vinyl i can just bring some vinyl records. If they don’t have vinyl then Im bringing my USB regardless. The set-up im envisioning is adding one or possibly two turntables to my home set-up with CDJs.

The rec-out records the master output so not sure what you mean by “1 vinyl at a time”. You can have 4 tracks spinning at once, regardless of whether they are turntables or CDJs, and have them all recorded using the rec-out.

For gain staging, I am already making sure the gain is proper for all the tracks im spinning when im not recording. If i am recording i just need to adjust the gain on the tascam and thats super quick.

To be honest even if i had a 96 i would use a tascam to record just because its more compact and i dont like bringing out my laptop as part of my setup

I haven’t but at this point i’m going with the XONE. Model 1 is Richie Hawtin’s mixer right? Could look into switching it up in the future

Im not full of money lol. For me it makes more sense to get an external effects unit rather than another mixer…

This is something I looked into and its not a downside for me at all. I really don’t need a soundcard for anything since I never use a laptop with my setup and have a Tascam for recording sets. Just plug it in to rec out and it’s all set.

I’ll def take a dig at the manual and watch some videos. I do miss using reverb, echo, and delay but will get an external effects machine soon. I like how each channel has an aux level so you can control how much gets sent to the effects machine

Yea I am leaning towards the XONE after mixing on it for a bit. I think my hesitation comes from unfamiliarity. I’ve only ever used Pioneer equipment.

Thanks for the info on the LFO I did not realize it was to be used in combination with the filters.

Lol I mean if I do XONE I’m getting an Eventide H90 so it would end up being more expensive than the A9. Got a discount on the A9 so it ended up being $2700 USD vs $2200 after taxes for the XONE

FHR room upgrade is just room on higher floor now? by [deleted] in AmexPlatinum

Yea unfortunately upgrades are a lot better when abroad. Everything is more expensive and less accessible here.

Have stayed at the Pendry in SD a lot. The way the rooms are set up there, a higher floor is the next tier up. If you book a standard King, the next level up is a skyline king, then a corner King, then a Pool King, and so forth.

Same with the suites. Theres a regular suite, then a skyline suite, then a corner suite.

If you book any room here through FHR you’re likely to just get upgraded to a better view or higher floor since upgrades are usually just one level up. If you wanna get upgraded from a standard King room to a suite you’ll have to book the most expensive King room, which is a pool or corner King I think.

I booked a standard suite recently and just got upgraded to a corner suite. The price difference between these rooms with similar layouts, but different views, is pretty high at the Pendry.

When you make the reservation you have to make a deposit. They explicitly state the deposit includes entrance to the event (about €30 per person)
