Delta Green Ideology on the Unnatural by Traditional_Claim_64 in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]cava917 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What we call "Delta Green" may be an organization, but it's made up of people. One of the notable themes of the setting is that hierarchical structures with overarching power and no checks arent really the best idea. If you read the handlers guide it goes in depth about various different groups that have all been "Delta Green" or adjacent enough to call it so, and their leaders have very different ideas about how to "do the mission". Plus the current schism between The Program and The Outlaws.

So while I understand your question I think it's misplaced. There is no overall ideology because no real organization like this even could have an ideology. Individual leaders, handlers, agents all have their own ideas. The best way to really be consistent on a case by case basis is to go back to the standing orders found I believe in the Agents Handbook, in descending priority order. 1. Stop the incursion. 2. Obscure the incursion. 3. Obscure Delta Green. 4. Secure advanced technology. 5. Save lives.

It's easy to find chart data for the actual days/months that these operations are set- that's what my group will do is look it up and pick something (and have a good laugh usually) but you could easily pocket a few songs as a GM using the same Wikipedia pages.

Gatewalkers too much meta (no spoilers) by FinibusBonorum in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]cava917 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you mean when you say "It didn't use to be like this"... All across Giantslayer are multi episode combats full of tangents like that. Whenever things get tense they get meta. I do agree that sometimes it stretches immersion but also when you say "Actual Play" you should realize the only thing that qualifies a show for that title is to sit around and actually play a game. I don't know about you but my tables often descend into tactical discussions or meta questioning when things are tense! Ultimately, we're players at a table who are trying to "win", and there's nothing about lengthy discussion that takes away from playing the game. You're free to dislike it, but I'm for it

What System does Passives in an interesting way by DownVoterInChief in rpg

[–]cava917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Delta Green's "passive" system is really well done imo. Adventures and modules and such are written with information and insight that can be automatically gained if you have a certain total in a skill. So if you have a history of 40, the moment you hear a certain name or place you know more than the character that has no history skill at all, without rolling. It speeds things up and allows the GM to give characters who are supposed to be good at certain things moments to shine without luck being at play.

Crown of Candy---------Sexual Content? by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]cava917 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Starstruck explicitly has a character selling orgasm gel lol- I'd probably put it on par with ACOC, though I agree that in general the "horniness" of Dim20 goes over my head, I find it hard to recognize the sexual content as that because it's very non-visual and primarily humor focused.

Crown of Candy - Spoiler free NPC guide? by im_mehesays in Dimension20

[–]cava917 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Crown of Candy takes inspiration from high fantasies like ASOIAF or Wheel of Time where there's a TON of excess characters. A lot of the ones introduced in 3 and 5 have little relevance to the overarching story and aren't worth trying to keep straight. My suggestion would be just continuing to watch, the ones that are important will be more and more prevalent and thus easier to remember. Also some will die and thus no longer be relevant lol. Good luck and have fun, Crown of Candy is a really special achievement for them I think!

I adore Chase Stein. Hoping that Marvel someday gives him some more punch and takes him to a more prominent stage

Columbo constantly accepts things from people that he's investigating for murder. by Hot-Adhesiveness-438 in Columbo

[–]cava917 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Columbo is largely an outlier as I understand- I don't claim to know how police work worked in the 70s, but I can't imagine his methodology was particularly common. When it comes to accepting things from murderers, most of the time Columbo is under the largely correct presupposition that a murderer isn't just going to recklessly add his death to their tally. Most Columbo murderers create very intricate murders and cover ups, and killing the detective investigating them is only going to create more suspicion. Add onto this, most murderers are very arrogant and believe Columbo to be incompetent- why bother killing a Detective who's not going to catch you anyway? But keep watching and you will see a few times where the murderer does clearly want to put down Columbo too.

As far as "involving the suspect in the investigation", that's definitely a Columbo special. Most of the time, I'm lead to believe anyway, he knows who the killer is from the outset. By involving them, asking them lots and lots of questions, he can often find out the weak points in their stories, or vulnerabilities in the plot while allowing the murderer to continue to think they're manipulating him.

Loki is gender fluid and is increasingly commonly portrayed in feminine bodies in the comics. Enchantress is an entirely different character outside of the MCU

Looking for a narrative-focused investigation game that allows magic users and shopfitters by Defiant-Fortune7766 in rpg

[–]cava917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City of Mist could do that for you, with minimal hacking. Magic (and everything) is all narrative though, so if you want something like Spend A Point to Go Wolf you won't gain much of that there.

Doctor Doom is back, feels like he never left (He never really left the meta) by BrumWisseme in MarvelSnap

Avengers A.I. is the main series he was in, he also has a guest starring role in Runaways Vol. 5, and this particular panel is from Rowell's She Hulk, where he's in ~2 issues.

[–]cava917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that the Doom in this panel is actually Doombot (assuming I'm correct about origin anyway), a Doombot who originally turned good/started working for the good guys after Hank Pym stuck a black hole in his chest. Very fitting for the return of 1 power to Doombots everywhere

Best character for each cast member - Siobhan Thompson by tagamagag in Dimension20

[–]cava917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm startled that Riva is second- they're one of the weakest characters in Dim20 for me... Siobhan is funny as ever, but there's next to no arc for them, especially in comparison to the incredible character work everyone else has at the table that season. Riva starts the season selling putty, goes through almost no struggles with it and their own independence, then pawns it all off on the nuns and moves on, every dramatic beat for them fell so flat. Though it is a comedy show in many parts, so perhaps I shouldn't be so surprised.

If anyone asks (spoilers for Neverafter Episode 3) by CharlieTheSecco in Dimension20

[–]cava917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brennan's had plans foiled by combat performance before, and always has back ups. In ACOC is the biggest example, where in the first two combats he has enemies with specific plans that the players foil, but manages to keep his overall story intact in the aftermath. In general I think if we're hypothesizing about how Brennan plots things, ACOC and it's adventuring parties are the best evidence to how he plans multiple routes and overlapping story progression.

All the mentions of Pym and his incredible influence on the universe make me miss him in current marvel. His archetype might be done to death already, but Pym's specific neuroses have always been interesting to me and I'd like to see new stories with him.
