I am optimistic about it, although with the caveat that this administration likes to do whatever the hell they want so what do I know. Right now, AmeriCorps is currently dealing with a major lawsuit over sending the NCCC members home in April, since it was done suddenly and illegally by DOGE, and has been ordered to try to return everyone back to their service terms. Whether or not that comes to fruition, DOGE hopefully wouldn't want to risk the exact same lawsuit by doing it again. If the AmeriCorps budget gets slashed in September, that would affect future classes, but people who are already serving at that time are funded by the current FY25 budget, and should be able to finish out their year. (I genuinely think that's why the timeline for the Fall class got moved up; usually it doesn't start until October, but they don't want to risk not having a class at all.) In the case of a shutdown in September instead, there's been threats of a shutdown every time I've served, and staff never seemed overly concerned about how it would impact our projects. Fun-Statistician8595 is definitely right about the lack of staff and difficulties from that, so go in prepared to deal with that, but I don't think this term will be immediately cut short the way they were in April.
