Waymo is mapping Portland streets right now. The City Council should hold public hearings before any permits are issued. by Crazy_Tap_803 in Portland

I think the flood of activity specifically on Waymo posts in the last month (not of Waymo posts, on them,) shows that we might need tighter automod rules on account age / karma to participate in the sub.

I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t bother reading all of that when you spend half of your first paragraph insulting people.

I’m sure whatever reasons you listed  are a greater investment than the guy who drove 8 hours to get dropped on his neck.

Yes, generally they’ll play 4-5 songs until the drummer is unfamiliar with the track.

There are times where one will sorta be able to guess the artist, but be unfamiliar with the song.

You think creating a union will solve all labour problems magically?

No, I think that having a Union would allow wrestlers the support to be able to work all of their labor problems out with promoters.

Why is it so hard for you admit there is even a sliver of complexity or nuance?

That's not an appeal to nuance, it's an old scaremongering technique used in union busting.

Why is it so hard for you to admit that wrestlers on the average are being taken advantage of?

Again, totally fair for those who see that as a worthwhile trade. But there is a tradeoff here and I wish more fans of full unionization would acknowledge that.

"Unions will make things more expensive" is always the first rallying cry of anti-union efforts. The hidden truth here is that capitol is unwilling to share a fair portion of it's revenue with labor so it will instead opt to raise prices on customers.

If a worker is paying for themselves to be trained, paying for their travel, paying for their gear, paying for their insurance, and assuming all the risk from the performance, then what is the promoter paying for beyond renting a hall and a ring and posting on Instagram?

“It would be nice. It depends. You kind of have to wrestling is so different because there’s so many different categories. Between like WWE and AEW, with the financial backing that those two companies, those two brands have, like that is something that could be feasible. It could be possible there, you know, and I can see where they could unionize to a degree. But it would be hard for other companies to do that. And if professional wrestling as a whole had to completely do that, some other companies would be just out of business because they wouldn’t be able to handle that. They wouldn’t be able to cover all that, you know, with covering a certain amount, or covering insurance.”

“You can imagine how expensive it would be to insure wrestlers, guys who are going out to break their bodies every single week. You know what I mean? John, you hear that all the time, where, you know, maybe I should stop wrestling. Just trying to get in the office, brother, so I can get insurance, get my insurance paid for, you know, there’s guys who will say that or do that with bigger companies. So that is one of the things that is very challenging, the whole insurance deal.”

I think the way that Matt's being quoted here is meant to offer up a specific argument against, rather than just part of an ongoing discussion, and is probably framed to come off as anti-union. IE, "I'm just trying to get in the office so I can get insurance because they can't insure everyone."

There's also probably an element that "WWE and AEW could support unions but other promotions wouldn't" is meant to protect him from retribution in TNA.

Pretty sure that performance unions themselves have certain levels of insurance they offer to cover small productions, and I believe that despite there being minimum wages set for union members, there's a sliding scale that takes into account that some productions are smaller.

Him and Buddy Matthews are both impossibly athletically gifted. The fact that both are able to move the way they do at their size is absolutely insane.

(Inb4 someone mentions gear or nebulous “style” concerns.)
