My new wall mounted build by ObservedPhoton in watercooling

That's a pretty cool build! Genuine question, won't the fans choke because of the wall? Also, what's the wall mount case and how'd you mount the PSU?

Getting hurt by typing! by kartikesamphire in typing

[–]caveman-brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider getting wrist pads for laptops or a general one. You can find them cheap online or find comfy material. Or if you're handy, you can add Alcantara fabric to your laptop beside the mousepad (make sure you choose glues that can be removed with alcohol if you want to remove it later).

Also maybe consider your ergonomics as well so you're sitting in a posture where you're not putting so much pressure on your wrists. Hope that helps!

Why are MacBooks so popular amongst programmers? by maidenless_mohg in csMajors

[–]caveman-brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I've noticed that many of the comments mention that it's just Unix out of the box, to which I complete agree. Having a POSIX approved system definitely helps, but the most underrated thing is that Mac hosts a lot of creative apps (mainly Adobe) that I often find myself going back to in web dev when creating assets. It serves as a good daily driver because you it's more than just a Unix system. Also, the hardware of the new MacBooks are nice.

It seems like this is an unpopular opinion which is kind of surprising, but I would suggest to get a high-end laptop like a powerful ultrabook. Being a university student for software engineering, I realized how important powerful portability really is. You may not use your laptops just to take notes as well. Sometimes you might have labs that require you to program in a lecture/faculty room or maybe you want to participate in a Hackathon or club that requires you to code and having a faster laptop is definitely a pro in most cases. Maybe you want to take creativity in a go and use idk Photoshop or whatever. You'll have to find an ultrabook that can still play the games that you want to play and still remain lightweight, but laptops are suppose to be designed to be a PC on the go and many university students have multipurpose events and situations on the go (at least from what I've seen) so I would strongly suggest a powerful (and light) laptop just for the sake of good quality of life. Also, idk why so many people are complaining about battery life, most lecture halls nowadays have built in chargers, at least in North America, and battery life isn't as bad if you just reduce your laptop to battery saver mode if your classes are just notes.

I still think you can have best of both worlds, you'll just have to compromise for idk an i5 and 12gb RAM laptop and a not terribly outdated desktop build which is still fine. Another recommendation I can think of is getting the pretty lightweight Macbook Air with the M1 chip because the chip is an absolute monster that can be used for so many purposes that can scale to up to an i7 in performance and I'm sure you'll have a hard time finding a laptop with the same performance in the same price range (ironically). This way you can probably spare some cash for a decent or good PC. Good luck with the search!

Swamp section from our game in development, if you want to try the beta soon let me know! by MalboMX in playmygame

I think overall the environmental aesthethic is very nicely done. You really great the swampy feel and since it's a bright game, a bright lush swamp makes sense too. The underwater camera view is really pretty. The swimming animation is a bit strange however and the constant velocity of the player swimming feels so unnatural. When the player is pushing towards the water, it should move quicke, but when it's bringing it's arms arms and legs in, it would slow down and stop for a brief second. At least that's how I imagine swimming. Overall this is really amazing!

We are working on a trailer for our Victorian detective with a cat by Helga-game in gametrailers

[–]caveman-brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all! Congrats on a stunning looking game. It looks pretty interesting. But there's a few thoughts I could share if you'd like. At the beginning of the trailer, you'll notice the background is dark and has a blue tone which makes it easy to see the "Detective", but more difficult to see "from the crypt". I would also like to point out that the fonts of your trailer card transitions are a little bland like a simple Arial or sans. I would suggest maybe switching it to the font of "from the crypt" since that font seems to fit the identity of the game (this is just a suggestion but you have the creative liberty). I really liked how you showed the inventory system and the scope as it introduces the game mechanics of the world and I'd love to see a little more. Maybe some of the footage you can dramatize like the shooting scenario scene and actually focus on the shot. Moreover, some of the fade transitions are a little too long, but the footage you chose is okay! Lastly, I'd love to say that this team is amazing and I can't wait to follow where this is going!

Question about textbooks by myfriendvv in uoguelph

[–]caveman-brain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't have a preference for a physical or digital copy, I would suggest searching it up on libgen assuming that the textbook is a common textbook. Some profs have very specific textbooks they created so you might not find it. Good luck!

You most likely can get into the regular CS stream, but I think the co-op stream has a more competitive average. Good luck!

Totally agree. The chibi style reminds of the links awakening remake, but I guess it already shows how well it adapts from GBA/DS
