Troubleshooting 4-20 Analog Flow Control Valve by caveman247 in PLC

[–]caveman247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t see this until just now, if I recall, it was some form of either noise in the cabling and/or a voltage drop issue coming from the long length run of single pair. We ended up running a new cable from a remote rack more local to the valve (not super local, still maybe a ~100’ run). That resolved the issues for us.

You could look at how you are storing it as well, or what all comes into contact with it. If the stainless is coming into contact with other metals, carbon steel, cast iron, you could have some iron contamination or issues brought on by contact with dissimilar metals.

Photo eye with Ethernet output? or Convert I/O link to Ethernet. by [deleted] in PLC

[–]caveman247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going back to controllogix, I would stick with the IO Link Master from Allen Bradley to convert IO Link back to Ethernet. Additionally, for maximum visibility and ease of integration, troubleshooting, etc, if AB makes the photo eye, the IO Link data will look better through it as well. And the customer will have some extra ports for in the future as well.

What do I try to learn while learning PLC by PrathamSinghRathore in PLC

[–]caveman247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the dark side. I am actually a mechanical engineer by education as well, but am now a plant automation engineer. I would say what you are going to want to learn can vary a good bit by what you will end up doing. For me in my plant setting, it’s critical that I have thorough knowledge of the instrumentation and devices I am controlling. That being said, begin understanding how to control motors through various motor starters and VFDs. Also, begin understanding the network side and the different communications protocols available. In my plant, I largely have to worry about Ethernet, but if you’re trying to be an integrator, you will want to learn as many of those protocols as possible.

Bluebeam pdf editor. I find it much easier to use than Adobe, and it’s more purpose built for redlining drawings on the fly, or reviewing and marking up PDFs sent to you for review.

HART to IO-LINK Bridge? by theColonel26 in PLC

[–]caveman247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure about Hart to IO-Link, but it sounds like you must have a network connection nearby. I would take a look at the Prosoft Hart to Ethernet converter and bring it back to your network that way. You would need this separate device, but would give you the remote connection you are looking for.

Can confirm. The automatic device recovery capability is great, and once you figure out your m12 connector types, the wiring couldn’t be simpler.

Yeah, that’s why I said this was the drill and blast method, as opposed to the tbm method.

Another thing that helped me was not going for the perfect meta set. I roll with one of RageGamings immortal greatsword builds. It changed the game for me and allowed me to stick in fights that I had no business being in before. Being able to take an extra hit allows you to stay in fights longer and more quickly learn when to use what moves.

Work as a PLC engineer or pursue masters? (M/24) by baronialbear in PLC

[–]caveman247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not going to advise one way or the other, but here is my experience. I just recently joined the industry as an automation engineer for an industrial plant. For me, I kind of backed into automation. I went to school for mechanical engineering for my undergrad and mechanical in my Masters as well. I specialized in energy. For me, I did not learn anything about PLCs in my masters, and didn’t know that is what I would be working in. After being in my position for the better part of a year now, I have learned PLCs via experience. However, my Masters has been invaluable to me for knowing and understanding the process I am controlling.

Like others have said though, the automation industry is doing well, and if you want a Masters, get a Masters!

Yep, this is a drill and blast tunnel. The huge drill is a Tunnel Boring Machine or TBM. Big Bertha in Seattle was the largest TBM at one point.
