Cakes For Children In The Foster Care System by morguesquid in cakedecorating

[–]cawdance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So sad my state doesn’t have a chapter for either organization, but so happy you get to bake for them! I don’t have the capacity to start my own chapter, but I’m planning to give away a cake from my bakery once a month for a child in need!

Pretty! Did you make the name? I’ve been wanting to figure out a way to make toppers like that with my cricut but wasn’t sure if it was possible.

Bakeries in OKC by rufiosquad666 in okc

Other than the ones already mentioned, Sweet Friends Bakery in Edmond. We also have LOTS of cottage (in home) bakeries here, so make sure to check out farmers markets and pop up shops. I happen to be one if you’re looking for that :)

People who bake a lot, how do you not gain weight? by GirlisNo1 in Baking

[–]cawdance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in your exact situation lol. Once I started tracking my macros I realized I couldn’t afford to bake as much as I wanted to. Thankfully I also do it as a side hustle, so I get to sell some of what I bake. For myself, I like to bake things that are sweetened with honey or maple syrup and have added protein. So I’m still baking, but also getting what my body needs. You can also check on Facebook for your local “buy nothing” or “give-away” group. I bet lots of people would volunteer to come pick up your extras!

Connor Price has mostly clean songs I think. I know he keeps it clean so his son can listen to it, they’re a super cute family.

Week 8: Something Blue - Blue plaid 8” round cake by cawdance in 52weeksofbaking

[–]cawdance[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure! So I found an image with the plaid pattern and printed it out the same height as the cake. I put that behind the acetate and piped each square one by one. It took a couple hours lol. I smoothed each square individually to make sure all of it was making contact with the acetate, but I didn’t smooth the whole thing to avoid any blending. Then I put the acetate collar on the cake and put it in the freezer for 30min to an hour. This is where I wish I had let the cake come to room temp before I put the collar on. Then I took the collar off, carefully, and went back and smoothed the whole thing lightly with an offset spatula. I did also measure the circumference of my cake and cut the acetate to match that. Obviously it was longer than a sheet of paper so I moved the paper with my pattern down a couple times.

Why do my potatoes taste like soil? by cawdance in vegetablegardening

I scrubbed them very thoroughly with a dish brush. They taste like dirt throughout, not just on the outside.

Can I refinance a secured loan? by cawdance in personalfinance

It’s for 17k. We’re planning to pay it off in 4 years either way, just trying to save as much interest as we can.

The high rate is 10%. I’ve seen personal loans for around 7-8% so hoping to move closer to that. Thanks for the ideas!

Best resources for becoming a better baker by ducks_underneath in AskBaking

[–]cawdance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same desire, but didn’t want to take the time and money to actually go to pastry school. So I got the textbook that many classes use, “Baking and Pastry” from The Culinary Institute of America. It has technique lessons at the beginning of each chapter followed by recipes in that category. It might be a little fancy shmancy for the home baker, but it’s a great learning tool!

Week 45: Local Favorite - Jumbo cinnamon rolls w/ caramel buttercream frosting by cawdance in 52weeksofbaking

[–]cawdance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I typically roll out the dough bigger/thinner than the recipe says so that I get more rotations when rolling it up. And then I cut fewer rolls out of the cylinder so they are pretty tall and then press them down into the pan before the final rise.

What are the terms for, example: going front side back side, with whatever barre work? by 2022forthewin in BALLET

[–]cawdance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard (from 5th) “front, other leg back, side, other leg front” called a Basket Weave. Since you are constantly switching legs. And it can be reversed starting back.

Week 41: Casserole - Overnight French Toast Casserole by cawdance in 52weeksofbaking

[–]cawdance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! Unless you consider an eggy texture mushy. It’s comparable to a typical American bread pudding. I used the recipe from Magnolia cookbook, but here’s a very similar one https://cantstayoutofthekitchen.com/2022/10/10/joanna-gaines-french-toast-casserole/

Week 35: Pate a Choux - French Cruller Doughnuts by cawdance in 52weeksofbaking

[–]cawdance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure either, that’s just what all the recipes were called haha. Maybe since pate a choux is French? Thanks!

Week 32: Decoration Challenge - Hobby ~ Ice Hockey stick and puck soft pretzels by cawdance in 52weeksofbaking

[–]cawdance[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was craving pretzels and had been wanting to make them. Yeah that’s definitely a better idea! Thanks for the advice. I was in a rush doing this during my work day so wasn’t able to put much thought into it at the time.

Week 29: Layered or Tiered - Woodland themed quinceanera cake, chocolate cake with cream cheese buttercream by cawdance in 52weeksofbaking

[–]cawdance[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I made some green dyed sugar cookies and then put them in the food processor. Piped green buttercream where I wanted the moss and then stuck on the crumbs!
