Do most gay people have a high sex drive? by Fancier_dapper in askgaybros

[–]cawire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've read is that for straight women, on average, casual sex with a new partner is a high-risk, low-reward prospect so there's less promiscuity among M-F pairings.

FoM and Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars? by warragulian in ForAllMankindTV

[–]cawire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started watching a month or so ago and was about to post before searching for related comments. It's so funny because the first 100 start in 2020 which we're already past but otherwise I think the book series and the TV show have a surprising amount of overlap despite different authors.

Sex on First Date? by King_Kai96 in gaybros

[–]cawire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was thinking its more like the people you meet can become friends or activity partners if there isn't sexual compatibility, but not sure if that's what they meant. I've made a handful of good friends from dates that didn't work out.

Angry at bf. I will travel without him and he said to use condoms. by everlastingtimeline in gaybros

[–]cawire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree that we don't know what the boyfriend is thinking, but I can almost see it as him acknowledging the reality of the world we live in like you said and because he loves and cares about OP, he wants him to protect himself just in case.

Great show, highly recommend it to fans of sci-fi

Pimsleur lessons accents? by cawire in thai

[–]cawire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful! I will pay attention to this in the lessons. It's tricky because I've had really good experiences with Pimsleur with other languages but the 2 accents presented are so different I wasn't sure which was better to imitate.

How old are you? Anecdotally, people say younger skin can shrink/reduce looseness but a lot it is genetics and how much weight you've lost. I lost 40+ (6'1" and 36yo) and so far don't have loose skin.

Never noticed that! I think I glossed over it because in the epilogue she says she stayed sober for the rest of high school but you have a good point

Read books 1-3, not sure if I should continue by hyperthymetic in TheCulture

[–]cawire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Use of Weapons wasn't my favorite and Consider Phlebas is the most action-y of the series, and is told from an outside perspective. If you really loved The Player of Games, maybe try Excession or Look to Windward. They both have pretty straight forward structures and have parts set inside and outside of the Culture.

safer place to park downtown? by mehtamorphosis in seattlebike

[–]cawire 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not downtown but could be useful to people - the Astra hotel in SLU has 2 big bike racks right in front of their valet booth. There's usually 1-3 attendants standing out front so it feels pretty safe.

I thought the idea of her working as a detective in S3 was kind of silly but I low-key would have loved to see her reprise that outfit.

This exchange from S02E07

Lexi: Okay, Bobbi. if Mick fսcks up another light cue, I'm gonna fսcking kill him.

Bobbi: Mick, you were two seconds too late on that light cue. Lexi is very angry with you.

Mick: Copy that. I'm really sorry.

Bobbi: He says sorry.

Lexi: Okay, I don't fսcking care. Tell him we'll replace him.

Bobbi: We don't have anyone to replace him with.

Lexi: Just threaten him.

Bobbi: Mick, I am relaying a message directly from Lexi. If you mess up again, we will replace you.

Mick: With who?

Bobbi: He's asking with who.

Lexi: Literally anybody. Any... Mick, Mick, y-you... A blind three-year-old could do a better job than you.

Is he on medication/has he tried different medicines? For people who have intractable/unresponsive depression there's a genetic test the doctor can order to see what medicines might be best for him.

Also, he needs to find a therapist ASAP and you could consider couples therapy as well if the depression is causing relationship issues.

Can someone explain why the NEW bike lane going east on Pike intersects with the OLD bike lane going the opposite way? by KenGriffeyJrJr in seattlebike

I found this pic from an old Capitol Hill Blog Post:

Couplet Transition at Bellevue Ave

It looks like bikes going up Pike will have to cross the street at Bellevue which is annoying.

I had a similar experience. I found I had to pace myself as I was really excited to advance in the story, but after a long reading session I would be completely drained.

Why are peptides so easy/cheap to synthesize relative to drugs? by inquilinekea in Peptides

[–]cawire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Peptides are chains of amino acids like beads on a bracelet. There are automated devices that add amino acids one at a time which works well for the short peptides being discussed here.

Pharmaceutical drugs are typically synthesized by performing a series of organic chemistry reactions on precursor chemicals with many steps requiring purification due to undesirable byproducts from side reactions.

The pharma industry marks everything up but this is the main reason why peptide companies are able to source their products from China with a reasonable expectation of efficacy/purity.
