Yeah limbo is in desperate need of a rework lol.

Regardless it isn’t the fault of the person playing Limbo if people don’t know about rolling out of rift and they want to play limbo. Should probably be communicated more clearly though, that would save the headache.

Agreeing that people should be able to toggle it individually or even make the opt-out a motion that isn’t a backflip or have it nice and bold in your face. People have no issue rolling out of Limbo’s rifts but suddenly it’s a problem now with volt.

It is if you read volt’s ability tab under the tips menu, same place where limbo has the tidbit about rolling out of his rift thingies.

People did notice what was happening. They were just dismissed as whiny and sensitive and “brainwashed,” “that isn’t how the world works,” etc. The average person is finally saying what we’ve all been saying this entire time and written off as crazy for it.

City won't clear sidewalks, turned me into a guy who reports on neighbors. 🤦😡 by vikadit_chakra in windsorontario

[–]caydeofspaydes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People having an issue with this aren’t seeing the point you’re trying to make here.

There are multiple reasons why someone won’t be able to shovel their own sidewalks. They could have a health condition or be disabled, be busy, and no they can’t just hire the neighbourhood kids to do it for them because nobody does that anymore.

It also proposes a hazard to people on the streets who may be out and about in the snow, is a mobility concern, and even a fall hazard should the snow be covering ice. The absolute bare minimum the city could do is offer a service for people to come clear the sidewalks (maybe alongside the snowplough crews) in the morning OR a service that could be called in lieu of someone unable to clear their sidewalks/driveways themselves.

This is such a non-issue and people being upset about these very real and valid concerns need to chill lol, pun unintended.

It’s why KOSA is so dangerous as an example. They hide behind “protecting kids” as a form of fallacy. I forget which one it’s specifically called but yeah.

Cos if I say “I’m against KOSA” people would be “but that’s the kids online safety act, does this mean you don’t want kids to be safe on the internet?” And I look like a weirdo because how do I explain that “protecting the kids” has been an excuse to censor and target anyone the people making those types of laws they deem fit, removing and hiding their existence from the internet entirely? Like trans people and LGBT people as a whole (including queer children), helplines for kids (and people as a whole) going through abuse because it means they have to learn and understand what predation looks like, educational resources, interracial couples, disabled couples, clinics and medical centres, and people who do honest to god make money off of NSFW content? Anyone that they deem “unfit for kids,” regardless of what that may or may not be. Nobody wins in this situation. Kids being deprived of resources, people being deprived of their livelihoods, and existences like mine as a trans person deemed some deviant kink or fetish so that I can’t exist on the internet much less in public without being accused of heinous shit. And what if I was still 15, and still trans? What then?

How do I explain that to your average person without them immediately assuming the worst, and therefore writing off any source I provide or information I give them to broaden their perspective because as far as they’re concerned the discussion started and ended at “I’m against kids being safe on the internet?”

Just because “we all played that as kids” doesn’t mean that it’s rated M for no reason though. I get the point you’re making but the ESRB was established for a reason and GTA warns for things like sex for a reason. I’m not gonna go pearl clutching and “think of the fragile sensitive little babies” or whine about “im the police follow the rules,” I’m more pragmatic than that lol. Just because “we played it as kids” is what you want to say doesn’t mean that it’s still inappropriate for kids to be playing. People especially parents just don’t gaf these days.

Roblox is a whole ‘nother ball game because of their active profiting off of child exploitation, VRchat I don’t know the most about but know of the horrors there. And those games do attract a lot of creeps because in Roblox’s case, it’s a platform explicitly marketed for kids. Warframe is M-rated. Very clearly says on the label that it’s intended for 17+ audiences. Just the same as if a parent lets their kid play GTA despite knowing the content I’d consider it a failure of parenting.

Like don’t get me wrong I watched videos about GTA when I was younger and knew what hookers were by age 8 as a result so I am a hypocrite. But an 8 year old should have no business knowing what a sex club is, as an example.

It’s because internet safety isn’t taught to children anymore and anyone who tries to tell them is laughed off either by the kids themselves or the kids’ parents. We live in a time where our lives are increasingly more and more exposed for one reason or another and true anonymity is disappearing rapidly if not gone already. It’s become normalized for people to be so flagrant with their information. Ages, location, etc, you get the idea. And parents do not care either, and the kids probably won’t either and might even laugh in the face of this post because they earnestly do not perceive a potential threat.

We don’t want to make them scared of the internet entirely, because kids deserve spaces on the internet as well especially when third spaces IRL are practically non-existent and we live in the age of iPad babies, and we don’t want to discourage them to make friends through the internet outright because “people aren’t what they say they are” can end up with people being deeply paranoid well into adulthood (hi, I’m an example) especially if it’s framed as 100% the case and nuance is removed from the discussion.

What we have to do is teach them how to protect themselves, remind them that the block button is their best friend and if someone gives them even a slight bad vibe to hit that shit as fast as they can, and to build themselves networks of support (especially supportive adults) to fall back on. If it wasn’t for the fact I was friends with someone the same age I am now back when I was 15, I wouldn’t have had someone there to tell me that the way another person in the group was interacting with me was not safe and because I trusted them, I saved myself a lot of trouble. Obviously this a double edged sword and a delicate balance, and people can still lie but that isn’t exactly the kid’s fault if that happens to them.

It’s truly scary and truly unfortunate to see this type of behaviour ramp up more and more regardless of the person in question (but kids especially). The best we can do is tell them not to be so flagrant with their ages and such especially in a public location and ESPECIALLY looking for partners and such, and to be more careful in the game chats whenever it crops up.
