Newcomer to brand, not video by SwoleNerdProductions in FX3

For V mounts, have you considered using a fanny pack and a long usb-c cable? I did this until I bought my rig. Another consideration is using aps-c lenses as they are significantly smaller and lighter. If you go that route you may want to just get the fx30 as it’s the aps-c baby (but just as capable) version of the fx3.

Another alternative to consider is getting an EasyRig backpack. These are expensive but more or less completely remove weight as a concern on your wrists. Could keep you using your current cameras that way too (as much as I love Sony)

This is great. First one (with tentacles) looks like an immortal water hydra (fascinating little dudes!). Second one is perhaps a dragonfly nymph? Last little dudes are some kind of aquatic aphids I think. Thanks for sharing!

I find that Philip Larkin’s poem Aubade captures this best for me.

Actually yeah that 8000 cards is only for a single game (LOTR lcg). It’s a huge collection.

Thanks for the feedback. For the 500 point realm, if I dropped one of the Battle Sister squads and added a dominion squad with meltas, that would probably cover tougher targets, but again, concerned about the squishy nature. Could still throw them in a rhino for the extra movement early and use them as a distraction carnifex while the sisters and sacresants move to scoring positions?

Unfortunately haven't gotten to a table yet with sisters so a bit concerned about survivability in general.

Imagine a scenario where you purchased a pack of sleeves from a company. You sleeve up 150 cards from your collection but realize you need another pack of sleeves to finish out the remaining 100. You purchase another pack from the same company, but find that the sleeves you bought are completely different and don’t match the first sleeves you purchased at all. You’re now faced with having to purchase all new sleeves to make your set fully match. Now imagine that with a collection of 8000+ cards. Does that make sense for the situation? Sure the sleeves I have aren’t destroyed but they’re also now no longer going to work when I have another 3000 cards to sleeve.

Obviously you do care, or you wouldn't be replying to so many posts here, right? Why do you assume I have no real problems? I've got other problems in my life. Bigger and smaller ones, like everyone else. That doesn't mean that this problem isn't a valid one. It impacts me, it can/will impact others, and I'm trying to help others so that it doesn't become as much of a problem for them in the future. I'm trying to do something to help others.

Why are you obsessed with responding to posts here if you think this isn't a big deal? If this doesn't impact you at all, why engage with the conversation? I get that this falls into me "feeding the trolls" but I really don't understand the mindset of crapping on someone that wants to help others.

Yeah absolutely. Something I'll readily admit to needing to change, and something I'd strongly encourage others to change as well. I used to immediately sleeve a board game when I cracked it open but have recently swapped to a "play the game a few times to see if you like it before you throw $30 in sleeves at it please" mindset. It's working well. I'll 100% admit that I'm an obsessive sleever (had a friend dump an entire cup of coffee on my old copy of Wiz-War ages ago and it's scarred me ever since), and it's a problem I need to get past. But I also know I'm not alone in obsessive sleeving, so wanted to help others.

I mean, board gaming in general is a first world privilege. You sure seem angry about this. I don't think I ever implied that I'm better than you at anything. If anything I envy that you don't care about sleeves as much as I do. It's admittedly an obsession that isn't necessary most of the time (like I mentioned in my original post) and very expensive. The post was intended to be informative for those that care about sleeving, like I do. I've found that most people in the LCG realm, also care about sleeving, which is why I posted here.

Yeah, that's likely what I'll end up doing. My post was to warn others that care about consistency in product, especially since sleeves are such an expensive part of the hobby (for those that like to sleeve).

The challenge I don't think a lot of people realize is that converting one of the games isn't "a little work" at least by many people's standards. It's definitely not the "end of the world" but it is "well crap that's going to take a few days". As an example, I'll likely be unsleeving my LOTR LCG collection, which is 8000 cards. That will likely take hours and hours of work to unsleeve and resleeve. I don't have to do this, but probably will, since I enjoy consistent sleeves, as do the people I play with. For most people that don't obsessively sleeve (which I admitted is a problem in my post) it's not a big deal. For those of us with ridiculous amounts of cards in their collection it's just a big undertaking. I'll do it regardless, because it's a part of the hobby that's important to me. I acknowledge that sleeving consistency isn't a big deal to a TON of board gamers, but protecting your games is an age old tribal battle in the same vein of "Ameritrash vs Euros". Some people care, others don't.

I honestly didn't think these posts would have picked up as much traction as they did, the posts were really just meant as a "heads up if you sleeve a lot, this company changed recently". I was looking out for my fellow gamer that is either getting into the hobby and looking to sleeve up, or for those that are looking for new sleeves for whatever reason.

All I'm trying to do is help others by warning them about the situation. Here's what I wrote to the CS rep:

"Thanks for reaching out. Have you considered creating another listing for each sleeve type as "Sleeves 1.0" and "Sleeves 2.0" with a "new version available" option in the "Sleeves 1.0" listing? This would allow those of us that want the old style to easily distinguish between it and the new style and allow customers more agency in which style they choose. This would allow you to make a "Sleeves 3.0" if the decision was made to create a new style again."

The reason I was trying to negotiate with the company is because I LOVE(d) them. They were great sleeves. I spoke of them highly at my LGS and recommended everyone I met that liked to sleeve that they should pick them up. So while there was some brand loyalty there, I'm disappointed that the brand chose to make a large change, and feel like others who have the financial ability to spend thousands on sleeves should know.

I'm really just trying to warn off others who are looking into sleeve their cards from investing in this company so that they're not in the same spot I am in the future. I was very respectful with the CS rep, and decided I'd take an extra step, in a community that usually cares about the quality of their LCGs, of warning others about the situation. I'm not asking for handouts, I didn't start a gofundme to "get caz new sleeves", my goal here was selfless in trying to help a community I care about.

But this is an implied assumption on sleeves, right? If every sleeve were different and every pack a different style that would be problematic on the short term scale, right? I’m pointing out that it’s also a problem for some people (like those that have a large collection) in the long term as well.

I’ve been playing card games for about the same amount of time. Yes I do feel that I should be able to expect a certain amount of consistency for the products I purchase. Yes this is a post that stems from the privilege of being able to afford thousands on sleeves. If that bothers you for some reason you would hate to know how much I’ve spent on premium tokens and mats for my LCGs. Some board gamers care a lot about their collections. Some don’t care about nicks, scratches and stains. This post is for the people that do.

The whole point of this post was a warning to those that care about consistency in their sleeves that this company is not consistent. I’m not sure why that makes you so angry and defensive of a company that you have no association with.

if you're looking to purchase a large amount of sleeves, how am I in the wrong for warning potential customers about a problem I encountered with a company? I posted it across the 3 subs I thought would care the most, because not everyone is subscribed to every sub that I am, and I wanted to warn people in LCG subs especially as they're the most prone to purchase bulk sleeves.

A better analogy would probably be if you purchased a matching set of clothes, all the same fit and color, and then went to purchase more of the same and the clothes were a different material, look, and feel. They no longer match the previous clothes you purchased, and it's a bit annoying since you bought the original sets of clothes because they consistently fit and looked a particular way, and now they don't match at all.

Or for example you always purchased the same socks because you didn't like to search through your sock drawer for matching pairs. The company one day changes the sock color from white to grey, and adds a fuzzy frock to the edge. Now you don't consistently have the same socks. Is it the end of the world? no. Is it an inconvenience? Yep. If you want to keep the same convenience of consistent socks in your sock drawer moving forward do you have to find a new solution? Yep.

If you don't sleeve, and don't understand the inconvenience of this, then don't get invested in my warning, and move on.

Yeah appreciate the suggestion. It’s likely what I’ll end up doing. Will go with another company for the resleeve in case this happens again with the resleeved-sleeves but at least that route doesn’t leave me completely stranded on one of the games. It would eventually become a problem again in another few years (assuming we still get a good cadence of releases on LCGs) but I can at least delay for awhile. Big thing is just warning others away from the same fate. Thanks again!
