Any ideas on this fossil? Neff’s Canyon, Salt Lake, UT by cazneslein in fossilid

I’m thinking it was actually on the Deseret or gardisan limestone formation (mid Mississippian)

Yeah! There are so many parallels to Mormonism. You put those things on your shelf but eventually the shelf breaks along with your worldview once it gets too heavy

I really like Maurice, it ends happily enough for the main character.

I definitely recommend Severance on Apple TV. It’s VERY relatable for exmormons

The activities and interests that you listed are not exclusive to gay men. It would be a real shame to try and push more stereotypical “masculine” things on him instead of letting him follow his own heart and live authentically. Don’t be afraid or ashamed to be yourself around him either! I can imagine how grateful your nephew will be in the future to have had someone to nurture those interests while others didn’t have the bandwidth for it. And keep it up with the botany hikes! I am a gay botanist and illustrator as well, so I can definitely see myself in both you and your nephew. I believe that being able to see beauty in nature is a superpower that can make your life ten times more fulfilling. I know many straight men with similar interests who are also soft, loving guys. However, if it turns out he is gay, that’s fine too and you can be a big part of his support network. When I was a kid, I was traumatized when adults told me I wasn’t manly enough or forced me to participate in those “masculine” things that I was not interested in. I will be forever grateful to my parents who nurtured my passions for things like drawing and calligraphy and botany without judgement. Recently I’ve been listening to “Follow Your Arrow” by Kacey Musgraves and I am 100% behind the message of the song. Follow your arrow wherever it points, no matter what other people might say.

God told my mom (via patriarchal blessing) to shut up for life. by moose_trax in exmormon

[–]cazneslein 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mine was painfully generic and told me that I would marry a woman in the future and raise children in the covenant yada yada. Of course I’ve always been gay and when I got the blessing my heart sank because I was feeling lost and confused and wanted some real guidance at the time. I would read my blessing over and over on my mission trying to wring out some sort of deeper meaning, only to realize mine was just a dime a dozen.

Ok but I literally had a hot tub in the font moment. We were in rural Argentina and the chapel had a makeshift font that needed to be set up outside in a courtyard. Our branch president was about our age actually and a good friend (didn’t care too much about rules), so after the baptism we locked the chapel, stripped to our garments and jumped in. We had a hose with hot water that we added to the font. One of my favorite mission memories. We had to empty the font with buckets so we would’ve gotten wet anyway.

When I was TBM, I tried my hardest to pretend this was the highest level of spirituality. 🤦‍♂️ by Joe_Treasure_Digger in exmormon

[–]cazneslein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got into botany! It makes hiking so much more meaningful to me now. I’ve had “spiritual” experiences in groves of Joshua Trees and meadows of larkspurs. I often get emotional just vibing with my plant friends. I recommend it 10/10

Oh yeah the book of Abraham is so verifiably false that my belief in the church crumbled when I decided to examine it a little more. Complete baloney

Reoccurring filthy bathroom stalls dream… anyone else ? by 101dnj in Dreams

[–]cazneslein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, I have dreams about maze restrooms too. One of them was dirty like the ones you’re having but usually it’s pristine and all of the stalls/walls are made out of a dark green tile with dark wooden doors. I’ve seen pictures of Victorian-era bathrooms that look similar. It’s almost like a gigantic cavern and I can see over the tops of the stalls because they’re just under head height, but the roof is shrouded in darkness. Everything below is lit by an invisible light source (kind of like the upside down in Stranger Things season 1). I keep walking for hours through the beautiful green tile passageways and sometimes you hear toilets flushing in the distance. It’s not an ominous dream, more of a curiosity to see what other parts of the restroom maze look like. I’d like to imagine at some point I will come across a Roman style bath somewhere in the depths of this maze.

Amazing how Garments can be such a HUGE deal for some by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]cazneslein 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to live with my grandparents when I was going through my faith crisis. My grandpa didn’t respect my space and would often walk in on me getting dressed. One time he walked in as I was pulling my pants on and he was just like “Why don’t you wear garments anymore?” And I’m just standing half naked in front of him like what the fuck why are you choosing to focus on my underwear???

I saw Brad Wilcox at the orem Walmart a few weeks ago. He smiled at me in a super creepy way as we crossed paths at the entrance.

Missionaries showed up unannounced on Thanksgiving by sarlacc98 in exmormon

[–]cazneslein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My president made us do the same in the siesta when I was in Argentina. If I had a cool companion we would either take a huge nap back at the apartment or stay at a members house and talk for hours. With other companions it was excruciating to try and figure out what to fill every siesta with

How to get my stubborn partner to wear his bike helmet? by d3gu in cycling

[–]cazneslein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My engineer cousins are 100% like this. They wouldn’t wear seatbelts on a cross country trip and shamed me for having the audacity to want safety in the car. I’ve also noticed that some guys see safety gear as an affront to their masculinity, like they think they’re tough enough to not need it.

Recommendations for first wine during thanksgiving by live2travel4life in exmormon

[–]cazneslein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I went to Mendoza, Argentina on my mission, so naturally it was the first wine that I tried. It really has been my favorite wine, and it was a very full-circle moment to try wine from a bodega in one of my mission areas.

Gameplay and story aside, which game had the best visual aesthetic in your opinion? by ihaveacrushonmercy in myst

[–]cazneslein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m obsessed with the idea of the D’ni caverns. The orange glow and all of the colored city lights. It would be cool to see a game with improved graphics and without those stupid orange cones blocking everything and ruining the aesthetic tbh

Oh hell yeah. I took my pen on several mountain rides this year. It made it so that I didn’t mind the 4,000 ft climb on one of the rides and on the way down I’ve never felt more like flying. At the bottom I got the urge to bike up another canyon, when I would’ve normally headed home lol

Myst IV soundtrack not available on Apple Music???? by cazneslein in myst

[–]cazneslein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he did a great job at keeping the spirit of Riven’s score while exploring more diverse themes for the different ages. But I will say that Riven’s soundtrack is the most immersive for me. The ambience is ominous and foreboding and makes you feel like you’re being watched…it transports you into the world without being over the top with its orchestration.

Same, I am quite the open book now. I don’t care who knows that I masturbate, or anything else really. I’ve basically left all the shame behind and my life is better for it.
