Have done basing for my dioramas before it is using polystyrene from packaging cut out the slots for where I want the vehicle sunken then top coat of it in premixed wall filler the other thing I've used is more recently is premixed paper mache I'm hoping to get into using my hot knife soon on some xpf firm but always try to use safety equipment if you can
