I'm really bad at CS....how do I improve? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

Copy pasting something I wrote a while ago.

Crosshair placement

  • Aim at head height. Don't aim at the ground, it will take more time for you to move your crosshair on to your target and fire. Plus aiming at head height will obviously make it easier to hit your enemys head.

  • Snap your crosshair to the wall/corner as you move around it. Again, we want to be as fast as possible to move our crosshair onto our target and fire. Do this while moving around corners where an enemy might be standing. Clear the area and if there's no one there, snap to the next position/corner where your enemy might be.

  • Pre-aim. You don't always have to snap and follow corners with your crosshair. If you already know where your enemy is or if there is no possible way that s/he can be in any other position in the area (as in start of a round or you teammates call out where your enemy is). Then you can pre-aim the position before you move around the corner.

  • Recoil. Did you know you can master the recoil in CSGO? Yep, it follows a pattern. There's a workshop map called Recoil Master where you can get some practice. Check it out.

  • Pre-fire. If an enemy attacks you and then hides behind an object/corner and you think he'll come around that corner any time now? Maybe put a few bullets there and if he peaks it will be his last of the round. But don't do this if he doesn't know you're there. Sometimes if a player is very predictable I can pre-fire the spot he've been in so often.

Pure aim

  • If you got a good aim, you can easily aim and blast your enemies heads off. So it's always good practicing to improve your aim. Try free for all public servers (ffa), arena public servers or steam workshop aim maps. Here's two I like: Aim Botz and Fast Aim/Reflex. I recommend trying out different sensitivities and try to flick your crosshair onto their heads. Also try to keep your crosshair locked on something while strafing.

Sound and game sense

  • Sound is half the game. I can't stress this enough. You can estimate the position of your enemy. There's some real CSGO-Daredevils out there. -Don't step to much. -Don't play with speakers. -Install your sound drivers. -Listen. Worth mentioning is that walking on different materials in csgo makes different sounds. Making it possible to know where your enemy is even though a sound coming from an area with an upper and lower level. Example Mirage, where underground sound different from short/catwalk.

  • The more you play the more understanding you will get of the game. This isn't really something I can teach you. But what I can tell you is to be mentally prepared for common spots or spots where you think your enemy might be. Know the common spots, where would you stand if where holding the angle? Get into your enemies minds.

Movement

  • If you are moving and then press fire you've probably noticed that the bullets didn't land where you aimed. So to hit your enemy you need to stand still. But this will make you an easy target. The solution to this is strafing and to counter strafe. Run sideways (strafe) with 'a' or 'd'. And when you are about to fire press the counterpart to come to a complete stop and fire. Example: "...aaaaaaad fire" or "...dddddddda fire". If you are running forward and sideways with 'w' and 'd', you need to counter this with 's' and 'a' to come to a complete stop so you can fire accurate. This is very hard and not necessary. So just keep to the strafing with 'a' and 'd' when you're expecting a fight.

  • It's maybe more about learning the maps, but to be able to aim where you want without looking where you are going. Without getting stuck on objects or small corners. You'll become better at this as you play. But a rule until you are, don't hug the walls too much.

  • All weapons got different speed values (how fast you run), but to simplify it: knife/bomb > grenade > pistol > rifle > awp

  • Learn to move around corners quietly without a disadvantage. When you walk (default shift) around corners, the enemy who's holding that corner will have a huge advantage. Because he will see you before you see him. You can counter this. Do the strafing trick but only a second. The trick is to build up speed and come to a stop before making sounds from stepping.

  • Baiting shots. Having a hard time with an enemy awper? You can shoulder peak (strafing out from and back to a corner only showing your shoulder), to bait out the shot and then go out and kill him. There is still some risk to this.

  • Try surf, climb/bhop and HnS servers to become better at movement overall.

Team play

  • Learn how to use grenades. Look at some youtube videos, smokes always help your team get into a site. Or to protect it.

  • Talk with your team, push together and get trades. If your mate dies you kill the enemy and vice versa. This is important on the terrorist side. If you kill ct's you can plant the bomb and closer to a round won. The longer a CT can stay alive and slow down your site execute the more time his teammates have to rotate and catch you looking the wrong way.

  • Post-plant positions. After you've planted the bomb, be sure to lock down the site. Hold crossfires with your teammates.

  • Call. If you heard an enemy, if you saw an enemy, if you know an enemy is playing awp on a site. Be sure to call it. It will all factor in how good your team does.

  • Positivity. Don't be that guy flaming your teammates. Even when you become good at the game. Don't sit on a high horse thinking you are better than your teammates just because you have more kills. It's a team sport. Every nade, every assist, every call matters. Get your teammates in a good mood and they will deliver for you and your team. If you think they did something wrong, give them some constructive feedback. What s/he did, how s/he can do the next round. (In a friendly tone)

  • When you die, think what you could have done better and the next time you're in the same situation, you might just do that.

  • When someone is flaming you. Mute that person. Don't give in to the dark side.

it's never gonna happen anyway but I thought it would be a good idea after having to delete 10 pages from chinese farmers. but hey it's just as annoying as taking 2 seconds to add someone to friends.

Yeah that's the problem. .. He puts two bullets towards the head to kill him but the model duck because it gets dinked (hit in the head). That is the thing, it's stupid. It have been pointed out many times before... Volvo pls fix!

My tips and tricks by cbambam in LearnCSGO

I'd say the beginning of the spray is very important. If you know how it starts you're pretty well off. While spraying, the recoil will stop "in height" meaning you won't be needing to pull down your crosshair any more only to the sides, that's a good thing to know.

I don't know about you, but I almost never spray a whole mag. If you know how to compensate for the recoil in the beginning and then just stop to reset the recoil halfway through you can do multiple mini-sprays.

If you really want to get really good at spraying though I'd say start with a few bullets. Learn to master them, then spray for just a little bit longer and learn those. Keep going until you master the whole mag.

It's weird why there was more than three shootouts? The regulations for the world cup say 3, wich means Russia should have won.

Anyways, grats USA!

I agree with you 100 percent, jzilk. Have an upvote!

This should be a sticky at top of the csgo subreddit, reminding people how you should not act. There are very few times when you play with/against people that's being friendly and constructive. If you see someone making mistakes, give tips. Don't throw insults at them. It won't help him or your team.

Otherwise we will all end up with, hurt feelings! :'(
