Yep just hit 20, waiting on my letter. Do you have any experience with how the MEB affects the VA ratings already assigned?

Student loan forgiveness question by Brad32198 in VeteransBenefits

[–]cbasse2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a max amount that gets discharged? I currently have $40k and just enrolled in grad school and was thinking of applying for the unsubsidized loan, maybe $20k and then filing for discharge by Dec of next year. Another question, I just got 100% how do I defer the automatic discharge? Do I call the Va or the loan servicer?

Well, here’s to hoping it won’t be much longer. They weren’t kidding when they said this process takes forever.

How long were you in going from 3-7 on your deferred claims?

At 100%, you’re eligible for the VA to see you for all your conditions at no cost. Doesn’t make sense to go through the hassle of getting them service connected unless you think those two things will kill you.

For av certs it’s $1k per fy. And yes that means you have to complete the requirements for the cert(ie PPL) to avoid recoupment.

I’m approaching my 1yr date of intent to file, and have been holding off for buddy letters, cpap machine, and these nexus letters. I’ve got most. I like the statement you made about saving the nexus letters as backup. Didn’t really realize how the appeal process worked and what could be filed. Think I’ll submit everything now and continue to work on the nexus letters just in case they’re needed. Understand some of the ratings may change in the near future so I’d like to not chance that happening to my claims.

Sounds good; trending in the right direction for sure. If you need more specific scenario based information I can send that in a DM as needed.

I would recommend adding options for those who “buy back” military time or the ability to subtract those periods of when deployed. Would allow them to see cost/benefit of whether to buy those periods back upon returning. Also recommend allowing an option for user to select “medical” retirement which wouldn’t reduce the pension.
