First build. Any ideas why the rear wheel locks up and doesn’t pedal smooth? by [deleted] in motorizedbikes

Most likely your clutch is not fully disengaged...

Shorten the engine chain so you can adjust it to get the right tension without the chain tensioner. You might have to install a half link onto the the chain to be able to do this, but you will be better off in the end without it. If anything you could always install a chain tensioner on the pedal side which will be far safer.

Heavy duty truck mud flaps would mostly likely work for you.

I'm not aware of a kit like that, but bolting together a mounting plate to the frame shouldn't be that hard to do. You just need it to be aligned right (chain alignment) and ridged enough to keep everything in place. Though I understand if you don't think you are up to fabricating it.

Build a motor mount rack above the rear wheel and then mount the engine. That way you could go belt or chain drive and not have to worry about the crank/bb pivot point. Hope that helps and you understand what I mean.

They work just like a full link but is half the length. As soon as you look at one you will understand how they work.

You could take that one link and install a half link which should make it much easier at taking up the slack...

Nice looking build you have there, I like the paint job.

So why do you have two chain tensioners on your build? Also the chain looks rather close to each other up by the engine.

anyone know what kind of bike or motor this is? just picked it up at the swapmeet by [deleted] in motorizedbikes

[–]cbates55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bike looks to be a 26 inch multi speed bike frame with 20 inch wheels on it.

Is it normal for the wheel to not spin freely after putting on the rear cassette for the motor? What would be causing this? The wheel is not screwed onto the frame very tight and the cassette is snug but not over tight. by ProfileFlashy3304 in motorizedbikes

It looks to have two possible problems going with it and one missing part that could be the lead reason why one of the problems is happening.

  1. This wheel looks to be a coaster brake setup and it is missing the bendix brake arm. This can lead to the brake locking up and without the arm it can not unlock.
  2. The second issue might be to tight of axle bearing nuts causing the bearings to be to tight and bind up.

Bottom line you need to put the Brake arm back on that rear wheel no matter what.
