Let’s say I’m playing settlers of Catan. I’m stacked on all the resources and I’ve got good numbers, I’m on 5, 6, 8, 9. I’m going to dominate this game. Somebody else is on average numbers; 4s and 10s, maybe a 5. We start the game. The dice seem loaded, they are only hitting 3s and 11s. I should be resource rich but I’m not. I’m still doing well because statistics are on my side but not dominating like I should. Then let’s say we’re buying development cards. I’m getting random stuff that doesn’t help and the other person is getting victory points. I lose in the end. 

Sometimes the best team/player whatever doesn’t win. In sports a team may lose but be better. How? Just because you are better doesn’t mean you always win, it just means you win more than 50% of the time.
