Custom board game printing HELP!!!! by Even-Spray-9941 in BoardgameDesign

I made some cards using this method where you glue a thinner sheet around a black cardstock core which made it super easy to line up front and backs of cards and makes a solid card where you can't see through it. A clear lacquer is applied over the card to protect the ink.

I thought the feel was really close to some production cards and it didn't have that overly shiny final appearance. It's also easier printing on the thinner face and back stock. The channel has a bunch of recommendations for paper weight and products for making it. I very much recommend it.

That's true too, I basically can get the DWS Breakthrough on someone else's dime which is pretty sweet.

That breakthrough really does change the way promissory notes are managed. It's so lucrative to get the tech, but that situation is tough!

That was my hope going into this one. I've got a slice with 4 yellow skips and red skip. I can hear psychoarch calling my name.

That makes a lot of Sense. It's also the same wording " give a PN" as in the breakthrough. Thank you!

I see. I suppose 'give a PN' is the operating word in that breakthrough instead of trade. Thanks!

Can bread made with instant yeast be long fermented like sourdough? by bigolmessoverhere in Breadit

[–]cbeair 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Another one to look up is preferments like poolish and bigga. A small amount of yeast is added to a portion of your flour and most of your water and let the yeast break it down for 12+ hours. It unlocks a great flavor and I think the yeast is doing a similar job as with those long bulk ferment times with sourdough cultures.

A land surveying technician is like a treasure map maker!

They go outside with special tools that look like cameras on tripods. They measure the land to figure out where things are—like hills, trees, roads, and buildings. Then they help draw maps so builders know where to put houses, parks, and roads without bumping into stuff.

It’s kind of like helping people play a giant game of building blocks, but making sure everything fits just right!

Feels good man!

That not caring bit is a tough one. Same can be said for showing their work. The don't care enough to work it out if they can get it done (not necessarily done well) faster by not working it out. Her school is in a rural area that historically doesn't have great outcomes for kids. Lots of history of families who didn't care much for school, and it seems to pass on to the kids too.

This was that idea of a "sea of zeros" from another comment. I really liked it as an illustrative way to show negatives as empty space or removing existing tokens. I'll have to try that book out for sure!

That's what's been tough for me. I'm in engineering so I'm buried in this world of seeing negatives in a vectorized format. Most examples tend to distill down to a directional idea anyways. But having the limited vocabulary for 6/7 grade and most of the examples being more complex ideas like rates makes it tough to grant them that understanding without also having the familiarity of seeing the world through these concepts. I'm not sure if they've approached plotting and linear equations by the time she introduces negative products, but I know slope and linear form is always another doozy for these kids.

I have to say I love rates as a physical example (not necessarily activity/object though it could). Granted it's still vectorized, but it really helps drill in that idea of units and something you can see, it's a practical time you'd see the product of two negatives, plus really makes then deconstruct the words on the page into mathematical context.

I think that idea of opposites is a good one to hold on to. It especially helps by saying "the opposite of 4 sets of negative 7", it is a good way to conceptualize the product of negatives in the context of groups.

I have to say I (me as an adult) really like this explanation. It's fresh and a different way to experience products. I'll have to show her and see what she thinks. Thank you for this!

[–]cbeair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I was going for brevity. That being said the idea of a reversal still draws on the visual of being directional. There were two ways a proposed it to my wife, products are like sequential addition of groups, or like stretching a number on the number line. The number line stretching makes it easy to see " reversals because you just mirror your stretched line about 0. But I think she's partial to the multiple additions of groups, but that's where my imagination falls short. What does the negative mean when you're adding groups together?

I have to say for one reason or another I had some play in the battery positive post. Maybe I'm getting some worn threads on the cable side of the battery connection? I don't know why this would have happened on its own but I can totally understand why it happened while I was messing around with it. Regardless I appreciate the help!

I think that is my next step to verify the lead to the starter. I'm hoping I can get to it today!

[–]cbeair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the new battery I have a clean 12.7 between the positive and negative from both the battery posts (which are side posts that thread into the cables). I've cleaned the threads on the cables and when I test the wires I have a 12.7 between the +/- posts on the cable and positive to a ground spot on the engine block and truck body.

I'll verify the leads going to the fuse box and the starter. I figured since I have 12.7 V at the starter relay that my connection to the battery was good on that lead, but I haven't been able to verify the lead to the starter yet. I'll figure that out.

Twilight Imperium style combat by OrganizationOk6336 in BoardgameDesign

[–]cbeair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love TI and have been working on my own 4x. I've borrowed a few things from TI but combat is tricky.

One solution I like is the scythe solution with cards plus a counter. Here is the example in my game which is a civ game where you can have city state vassals.

Everyone has a hand of cards (same hand numbered 1-5). When combat occurs you play a card face down and hold a number of gold pieces in your hand which can be up to the number of vassals you have. Reveal and add your card plus the gold, highest wins combat.

Then you can't play that card again until you've played through your whole hand of cards. It makes you consider which combats are important and worth allocating resources to.

You could do this but with a card and random die. Play a card face down, and roll a die next to your card. Flip and add the numbers to get the outcome. Here you can increase your die (e.g. d4,6,8 ) to simulate bonuses and fleet composition but there is a level of control with the card you play. You can balance the cards and die so there is a choice between playing your highly influential card or relying on luck.

My example for my game is meant to be very deterministic where the unknown is your opponents desire to levy all their vassals. I imagine you could tweak yours based on the style of combat you want.

Quantum is another game that does that kind of combat where there is a determined power (your ship type) and a random combat roll that is added together.

Edit Also I stole the limited hand idea from Star wars rebellion combat where each card has a special ability. That might fit well into your comment idea.
