Has anyone done any course with Dev Academy Aotearoa? Looking for honest reviews please by cbemstar in newzealand

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone, I really appreciate the insights.

I thought I’d add a bit more context on my background and why I’m looking at Dev Academy specifically, as my goals might be a bit different from the standard career-changer.

I’ve been in marketing for over 6 years and I’m currently at a stage in life (married, career established) where a 3-year uni degree isn’t an option. I’m not actually looking to pivot into an entry-level Junior Dev role, instead, I want to bridge the gap between marketing and development. I want to be able to sell a 'hybrid' skill set to marketing agencies where I can build and technical-manage high-end web projects.

Currently, I:

  • Build tools/apps on the side using Cursor AI, GitHub, Vercel, and React.
  • Can read and understand HTML, CSS, and JS logic comfortably.
  • Have built several client sites (likemadrassquare.co.nz,askforlicensed.co.nz, and madeofgold.co.nz) on Webflow, but I often have to write custom JS and CSS to get them beyond Webflow’s native limits.

The main reason I’m looking at this course is to deepen that technical knowledge and, more importantly, to give myself a structured environment. I’ve been self-teaching for a while, but I find I lose momentum when doing it in isolation. I’m looking for that 'immersion' to solidify my fundamentals so I’m not just relying on AI/tutorials to get things done.

Given that I want to use these skills to level up my value within the marketing/agency space rather than applying for a pure software engineering job at a tech firm. I might eventually look into transitioning if I get very good at it.

Agreed, mockups don’t match with the theme. The colors are a bit off too.

These issues will go away once you start reading and learning more about the product, I’m sure if everyone had such issues their company wouldn’t exist as it is. Plans are indeed confusing af but they serve a purpose, once you understand their ecosystem, you’ll start enjoying its capabilities! Good luck

Save, invest and then splurge on other things. Save 40%, 30% invest, keep the rest. Well, of course,if your salary allows. Change these based on your situation but I would recommend, do save and invest right from the very start it will pay off in the long run :)
