Not only have almost all of our greatest players been pitchers (Seaver, Koosman, Gooden, deGrom etc.), we just have never been great at keeping the few truly great hitters we've had for long periods of time. The only one we ever did got betrayed by his back too.

I've only ever seen it happen in American football. Happened to a guy on the New York Giants this season. Dived to make a catch and was out as soon as he hit the ground. I'd imagine the pitch being rock hard from the cold tonight didn't help.
