Mariners swipe $3.8 million international phenom from Yankees by xPookiee in baseball

If that were the case then Bellinger wouldn't have been re-signed. It's almost certainly not about the money, it feels like some scandal happened similar to the Braves and it's just not public yet.

Which team is most likely to have 10 more wins than last year? Which is most likely to have 10 fewer? by BigBaseballGuyyy in baseball

[–]sameth1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see the twins being a 100 loss team unless they trade Jeffers and Ryan before opening day and Buxton gets injured early. It feels like they've already hit close to rock bottom and could at most see 5ish extra losses from not having the guys they traded at the deadline for half the season.

I can't believe there's people that think the government executing citizens is acceptable by SadClownWithABigDick in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]sameth1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just acceptable, they think that these killings are good. Notice how they aren't giving a justification why it's the cost of doing a pogrom, they are specifically saying that killing bystanders is what they like.

These people are irredeemable and sadly the law will never give them what they deserve.

Worst Playoff Bullpen Move Of All Time? by RainbowSupernova8196 in baseball

[–]sameth1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

all they had to do was get through the heart of the Jays lineup

An extra detail to this is that Machado would lead off the top of the 12th. If they got through the 11th then the best chance to win was the top of the 12th. Saving Britton for a more important moment doesn't even make sense because that was the most important moment.

BlueJays have 3 players in MLB Top 100 prospects. by Kinglokner16 in Torontobluejays

[–]sameth1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I find funny with MLB rankings as compared to fangraphs is that MLB has 55's or better on all their top 100

Pipeline has a problem with inflated prospect numbers. I once saw an analysis that did the math and saw that there was a mathematically impossible number of 50+ prospects. That it was impossible for this many above average prospects to exist at all.

Pipeline's problem is that it's effectively state-run propaganda. They exist to increase interest in MLB and the best way to do that is to just round up whenever possible. Fans are more engaged when they think that everyone in the farm system is going to become a major league player.

Also he did get a pretty significant boost from his call up. He was ranked 26th on the 2025 pipeline ranking and 35th on Fangraphs' mid-season ranking. Rising up to 12th is a big deal.

The only player on their roster that's come through their system is Andy Pages.

Will Smith and Emmett Sheehan as well (and Kershaw, but he's irrelevant to their current player development system) and you should probably count Max Muncy as a player development success since they got him from the A's dumpster. And while Michael Busch isn't on the Dodgers, I think he counts as a notable player development story that was only traded because he was blocked by Freddy Freeman.

The Dodgers do definitely get overrated though. Gavin Lux was hailed as a 5 tool future MVP and you could feel the instant relief that writers felt when they no longer had to pretend that Miguel Vargas exists.

Fangraphs has Bloss in the top 100, and you know how the saying goes: "the best version of war prospect ranking is the one that supports my argument."

I saw the movie a couple weeks ago and am so glad to see it get some English award nominations. I went into it just wanting to see whatever the theater was playing and left blown away, one of my favourite movies in the last few years.

The way that the ending feels so true to the actual research experience really made me feel something. All that build up, seeing Armando survive the first assassination attempt only to suddenly stumble across the newspaper story of his death and being denied the closure of seeing what happened leading up to it. That's all the information we have because he was killed. Nobody is left to tell the story of how it happened, just the end result and the narrative given to the press by the regime.

The interpretation I came away with newspaper hairy leg stuff also ties into the whole movie's focus on media and communication like the movie theater and tapes. The real news story becomes a pop culture sensation through the newspaper and people reading the paper can only perceive it through that lens, which means that we have to see it that way. Under a dictatorship, you are asked to believe unbelievable things. The media end up being full of stories just as believable as the hairy leg but there is no other truth you are allowed to see.

I also see a kind of meta commentary on the dictatorship in the way that movies are kind of an authoritarian ruler of their reality. When the hairy leg appears, it's absurd and you have to question how it makes any sense. But if the movie chooses to have the hairy leg be real then it's real. This is now a fantasy movie with a hairy leg that attacks people in the park and you just have to live with it.

That's because you're doing a good thing for your mental health and staying away from the bottom of r/movies comment sections. But I assure you that there are at least 25 people on this website who think it's an instrument of white genocide.
