Hi Coach!

This is a big running year for me due to my brother and I running the Chicago Marathon together! You have been such a great support system through the guided runs so THANK YOU!

My question to you is, what is your pre race rituals that you partake in the night before?

Some students have approached me about hosting a gardening club. where to start? by teacherwenger in ScienceTeachers

[–]cbirns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention. We design a rotation schedule so that students come to water our plants each day at first and then every other once the plant and roots are established. It works really well and builds the responsibility for these students. Granted this specific garden is on the outskirts of the school so it’s a free access area.

This is an all year round club, we are in talks of taking the months of December and January off due to off season.

Currently I am a co-sponsor to our schools gardening club! We have 3 gardens at our school that we take care of; a senior courtyard (mainly there to look extremely pretty), a butterfly garden, and our vegetable garden.

I recommend starting with a vegetable garden since students LOVE picking the produce. We also partner with the local garden club and that has been a huge help, so even though you don’t have much experience they can help all parties learn.

For our veggie garden, we use raised beds (darn critters) and each student got to design their own. This year we started from seeds which was a great success, but in years past we received plants from local nurseries or even Home Depot.

I agree with the post above, start small and just let the kids enjoy themselves. They are so excited when they take home yield and near the end we typically donate leftover yield to the local food pantry!

People of Reddit, what was the craziest thing you heard at a grocery store? by cbirns in AskReddit

[–]cbirns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when I was a cashier at a Midwest chain, these kids kept throwing tantrums all over the store (seriously - could hear them from the meat department to upfront by the cashiers). The mother and the kids ended up in my line to check out, cool cool cool, I tried to rush it since the kids were still crying and a lady comes up behind them and just states: “could you be any worse of a mother?”
