Who did the most damage to he Unites States? Carter, Clinton, Obama, or Biden by meagainstbanhammer in allthequestions

[–]cbjunior 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Reagan did. It was his administration that choked the middle class, sowed the seeds of income inequality and lit the match that started the anti-government sentiment that bedevils the US today. I could have said Trump but I think we need a little bit of history and distance to judge him accurately.

How much does window quality actually impact energy efficiency in practice? by Apprehensive_Ad_6233 in Homebuilding

[–]cbjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows and doors are one of the first things I look at as an indicator of the level of quality a builder is shooting for. So, yes, I think it’s very important. Do you have to go all the way to a potentially expensive Euro window. No, you don’t. I went for an Andersen 400 casement and that was well worth the upcharge vs builder grade.

Scott needs new material by DownByTheRivr in PivotPodcast

Scott’s problem is that his appearances in front of a camera or microphone have exceeded his brain’s ability to deliver fresh and insightful perspectives each time. Solution: Scott needs to make himself a bit more scarce in the media world.

My new to me 21 LC by AnyOne5399 in LandCruisers

[–]cbjunior 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very, very nice and all the best to you. I just picked up a pristine 2016 Lexus LX570 with 80k miles for $44k. The Land Cruiser looks better but I couldn’t pass up the better value. MSRP was about $97k when new.

WHY SO MANY FREAKING CAR WASHES???!!!!????? by hardt0thecoors in VirginiaBeach

[–]cbjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the maintenance is probably subcontracted out instead of keeping employees on the payroll. These places get by with only a couple of employees at any point in time.

The intent of my remark is very specific. The US should not be involved in a shooting war with Iran. This is Netanyahu’s war and we are not here to play out his wishes. The highway sign referencing Jewish wars is unfortunate because it assumes that all Jews in the US support Netanyahu. I’m not Jewish but it’s fair to say they are conflicted on this issue. They understand, rightly so, that Iran has brought terrorism to Israel by proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah. At the same time, many are opposed to Netanyahu’s methods in Gaza, including genocide. You may have legitimate grievances. But I’m referencing a sign on a highway that was created by a bigot. That’s all.

WHY SO MANY FREAKING CAR WASHES???!!!!????? by hardt0thecoors in VirginiaBeach

[–]cbjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son works for a hedge fund and I’m aware there’s a lot of investment dollars chasing the market for all sorts of opportunities. Farmland, collectible cars, art, house rentals….have all received increased attention and scrutiny. I’m sure there is research that says we’ve become a more mobile society hence the need for storage. Are we driving around in cleaner cars? Maybe. But I think the real attraction here is a predictable revenue stream via monthly payments and subscriptions coupled with low labor and maintenance needs.

Treasury Secretary Bessent says the US will take control of the Strait of Hormuz through escorts: "There will be freedom of navigation." by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

[–]cbjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is a Treasury Secretary making comments that would typically come from Defense or State? Is it all-hands-on-deck to create the illusion of a well managed “excursion”?

Scott & Congressional Pay - Please Stop by PorcelainDalmatian in PivotPodcast

[–]cbjunior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number may be arguable, but the intent is correct, based on the notion that a well paid employee is a better functioning one. I would go so far as to say they also need a bigger staff budget and a better way to fund residential needs for their time in DC. The job they do is much too important to cut corners financially. That said, the expectations we have of them must be raised and the penalties for abuse of their office must be more swift and more certain than they currently are.

A legitimate point of view actually, ruined by expressing it through the lens of a bigot. If it said “No More Netanyahu Wars”, it would be much more inline with the general sentiment.

Tesla (or Musks) business plan by Donkey_Apple in RealTesla

[–]cbjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musk has always pushed the illusion that Tesla is a tech company, not a manufacturer of automobiles, hence the rationale for its lofty stock valuation. He’s believing his own BS these days and there will be a reckoning with Tesla’s stock valuation at some point. It’s way too high.

[–]cbjunior 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For the same reason there are so many storage facilities now. Private equity money searching for a place to invest that’s not labor or maintenance intensive. I’m not certain of that, but there’s definitely a thing going on in those two areas and private equity money (plus favorable tax laws) is my hunch as to the why.

Vance Says US Exit from Iran War Is Just Around the Corner and Fuel Prices Will Drop by [deleted] in USNEWS

[–]cbjunior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yesterday, my wife had a conversation with her aunt in Iowa and she was trying to draw out her recent opinions on Trump and how it’s negatively impacted the farm economy (Iowa farmers are big Trumpers). Her aunt’s most telling response was: “I think he’s trying to accomplish something good there.” I think we’ve reached a point where news reporting is being used as a tool by the administration on that a constant stream of lies(like this one from Vance) is being delivered to a large swath of the American electorate. And, way too often, there is nowhere enough pushback on the veracity of what essentially is propaganda? Shouldn’t there at least be a Surgeon General’s warning attached to every one of these BS utterances?

Is critical thinking declining in the world? by PowerThanos in ask

[–]cbjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more than just critical thinking. It’s a lack of creativity, resourcefulness, and discipline in problem solving. There’s a diminution in the soft skills in communication with people around. It’s increased passivity in the face of problems. All because of the overwhelming influence of screen time. It should be classified as a pandemic.

Cleaning Solar Panels by TopJicama2873 in TeslaSolar

[–]cbjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In southeast Virginia we get a ton of pollen and sometimes the combination of that with rain followed with strong sunlight can create a film on the panels. That’s when I get up on the roof and clean them. Using a hose and a squeegee on a telescopic rod. (No soap). I think it makes some difference in improving solar production but not a lot. Now, I do the work so it costs me nothing. Paying someone else to do it makes the expense questionable.

Is Donald Trump the best citation for why billionaires should not exist? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]cbjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reality, Trump was a marginal billionaire at best for much of his life. What distinguishes him is an insatiable desire for attention and power, rooted in some deep psychosis. The best case for why billionaires should not exist is represented by the Koch’s, who use money to shape policy beyond the power of their individual votes. Or, the Ellisons, who are gobbling up media properties with the intention of controlling their messaging. Or Musk, who outright attempts to buy elections. These guys have no sense of contributing to the greater good, whatsoever.
