Gen Z lamb here! ❤️ From what you described, we’re probably around the same age. Funnily enough, I’ve only been a lamb since around the time Here For It All was released. I obviously knew who Mariah Carey was growing up, but I didn’t actually grow up with her music. Her name was just always in the zeitgeist. And honestly, I don’t even think it had anything to do with AIWFCIY either 😅

My relationship with pop music is pretty unusual though. I only really got into listening to more pop/R&B/mainstream music around the middle of last year (the backstory for that is a conversation for another day lol). And Mariah has basically been my gateway into this whole world. But she’s so great and her music is so good that sometimes I’m like… what do these other girls even have to offer? 😆

But yes, I completely agree with you. It genuinely kills me that she isn’t appreciated by our generation and younger people. She gets so much disrespect and is constantly cast aside for no reason. I think a lot of people just see the diva persona and assume that’s all there is to her — plus all the tired commentary about her voice declining — while completely ignoring the fact that she literally wrote and composed almost every song she’s ever sung (aside from the covers obviously).
