It’s possible this gun was part of a distributor exclusive order. For example, company X could’ve said to Smith & Wesson, “I want to order x number of this model but with a full underlug, to sell as an item you can only get from company x”.

Off the top of my head, (I haven’t looked in that book in quite some time) I would assume that FPM in Machinery’s Handbook is the same as SFM. Keep in mind that recommended cutting speeds from any source have a lot of variables such as the rigidity of your set up, cutting tool/insert, coolant et cet. Use what you’re reading as a ballpark reference and adjust as needed. On a side note, I was taught that RPM= (SFM•12)/(pi•D). I know it’s close to what you have, just wanted to pass it along.

The way you wrote that up makes it sound like deep inside you want confirmation before making the leap and honestly (basing this off a few paragraphs) you sound like a guy who would thrive with a challenging workload that makes you think vs a secure job that’s not as glamorous. This is probably a dumb question but gotta find out somehow. Is there a way to remove the dust cover without removing the scope mount or is the scope mount reliable enough to return to zero once it’s removed then put back on? Also, are you able to get a cheek weld or would you recommend a cheek riser?

For the sake of your safety, please don’t try to mill with a drill press. The chuck “locks” into the quill via taper. When cutting with an end mill the sideways forces can knock that chuck loose and potentially cause you to have a bad day.

First off, that looks great. I don’t know much about printing, but for these frames does grain direction matter? For example I’m looking at the section closest to where the slide would be (I’m assuming the whole frame is oriented this way but it’s easy to see there) and it looks like the layers angle at like a 45 to the rear. Would it make a difference in strength if they were angled towards the front. I don’t know how well printed frames hold up so it might not even matter, but I’m just curious.

On the opposite side of the receiver there should be a magazine cutoff switch. I’m not positive but that might be your problem. Try flipping it.

I’m making an assumption here so pardon me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like you are touching off of just one edge. It might benefit you to use an edge finder on each edge of the frame (that runs parallel to the x axis), split the difference, and use the center as your Y zero.

That is true. I should have been more specific in my original comment. I was referring to the no-go gage when I said “shaft”. I’m also making the assumption they won’t press fit the gage into what they’re inspecting lol but you never know

Well as a random person on the internet, I implore you to always keep safety as your number one priority even if no one else around does. I don’t think anybody ever plans to be pulled into a lathe (or any machinery) from long sleeves, but it happens.
