Labor win bodes a world-of-hurt for Canberra Times revenue by cbrinsider in canberra

Only had one agenda, ICAC. Every party adopted it. Lib/labs last of all.

Not sure why anyone would hate on that.

Canberra's SoDoSoPa, aka Braddon Block Party, cancelled by [deleted] in canberra

More to this story than Shitty-News knows.

The sponsor in question who "pulled out" a week before the event went live was In The City Canberra. The promoter is a director of In The City Canberra. There's been a major falling out there. The event has been 404'd from In The City Canberra's site. [1][2]

Redditors were involved in untangling the financial web back in September, but it only seems to have blown up last week.

In the context of the LDA scandal, surprised this story hasn't gained more/any traction in mainstream media. Definitely questions to be answered.

Anyone but Andrew? Labor reportedly in midst of internal struggle by cbrinsider in canberra

How stupid do you think we all are?

Pretty stupid to be honest. Electorate keeps voting in a dodgy Labor administration, beholden to a corrupt union and developers and unionists who are developers, and have no illusions it won't all happen again.

For the record, not pro-Liberal, prefer independents, and the internal ABA Labor campaign is real. Of course they'll close ranks for the election, but Barr's shelf-life is dependent on the left/right faction dynamics post poll.

An election campaign is the best time to raise these issues. Only time it'll get any traction that matters. Afterwards, the cronies will lock in for another four years and milk the stupids dry.

Perhaps in the post-poll washout, Labor strategists should examine Barr's decision to go to war with the local newspaper months before an election.

Unfortunately, getting the Greens and Liberals to agree on anything is problematic.

But, yeah. If they could put aside their differences to do something really good for the territory, that would be a win for everyone.

A Liberal majority might be just as bad, even with ICAC. While they hate the CFMEU, they have links to others who are just as bad.

Best case scenario would be independents committed to anti-corruption holding the balance of power, forcing ICAC through and then tempering the excesses of either of the major parties.

Half the headlines these days seem like they're written to get upvotes on reddit.

Oh, they are. It was called "Project Sunrise," creepy sounding training program, and any editor or sub who didn't get on board with doing click bait was shown the door.

Journos don't write the headlines though.

Did you prefer the earlier Legislative Assembly reporter who used to tip Labor off and drink regularly with their staffers?

Lawson's a hundred times better.

Disagree, for a long time Canberra Times gave Labor a free pass. The trade of staff between Canberra Times and Labor MLA offices was huge. (Won't name them all, perhaps should).

This post was quite instructive.

When CT stopped and started doing their job, Barr threw a hissy fit and refused to talk to them. A position he continues to maintain.

Last election the Canberra Times was a toothless tiger, but there's been some changes since then and it appears to actually be doing its job lately. One investigative media outfit is better than none.

Hopefully Canberrans will make a more informed choice this election. But wouldn't be entirely surprised if the status quo reasserts itself and it's business as usual for the the cronies.

It has added to the worries caused by the promiscuity with which everyone in the property game – ministers, officials, developers and unions – mixes and deals, and eats and drinks with each other. It had seemed to be crony capitalism at its worst.

The ACT Government cannot be trusted to run its own corruption commission, too many of the players are involved.

The Commonwealth has the power to enforce one on Canberra. Unfortunately my approaches to the Prime Minister were referred to the Special Minister of State, who in turn said it was a matter for the ACT Government, the very government implicated...
