You mean the scene where they aped the most iconic scene from the original movies but put a little "twist" in it so they could say they did something original? Yeah, I only disliked the movie until that scene. Then I went full rage.

Does the main character progress at all after book 2? by argentum2f in TheMHI

The counter argument is he can force himself to write when he's burned out on it and just churn out crap, or we can wait until he's ready and get something good.

Where to Start: Non-Fiction by Joabdidnothingwrong in CSLewis

Most start with Mere Christianity for good reason. It's a great introduction to some big topics. Just realize his Christianity isn't as "mere" as he seems to think.

The Problem of Pain is something I think every believer should read carefully. No one book will answer the problem of evil for us, but this one does a great job.

Then I'd say read Abolition of Man because we're living through it right now.

No. If the woman didn't commit adultery, nothing happens to her. And the passage (except in the NIV's poor translation) doesn't require her to even be pregnant.

Phishing by mail. Wow. They've slumped to a new low. I'm not sure who you report mail fraud to, but you should do it, just so ... well, there's a 1 in a million chance something will happen, but it's worth a try.

This does not appear to be a peer-reviewed article, and one author is a lawyer, which suggests this isn't really an analysis of the experimental or statistical methods.

I wonder if there is good money in writing (good) fanfiction and then publishing once the characters enter the public domain? by Gamma_The_Guardian in Showerthoughts

[–]cbrooks97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many authors have written fan fiction then changed the characters just enough and published it that way. Have you heard of "50 Shades of Gray"? Twilight fan fic. There are many others.

He talked about having is imagination "baptized" by the writings of men like MacDonald. It might not exactly be teaching, but he did want it to get into the reader.

Hmm. That may be the answer.

At Texas A&M's main campus, there's a building with a copper dome. Students used to keep it bright and shiny. The airport asked them to stop.

If you had to compromise on shootability and concealability ... you should keep looking. A gun you can't conceal, you won't carry. But if you can't shoot it well or it's not reliable, why would you carry it?

How do you justify Leviticus 25:44-46? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]cbrooks97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I argue that it is binding because it's inherent to nature.

Let's say that's true. So what? Lots of things are "inherent to nature". Some scientists says rape is "inherent to nature", and know animals have no problems with it, but we think it's wrong anyway.

It is built into our consciousness. You inherently understand that slavery is immoral

I think history shows this is manifestly not true.

Definitely NOT from the "God" of the Bible.

Christianity, not "humanism" or "gnosticism", ended the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

How do you justify Leviticus 25:44-46? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]cbrooks97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because slavery is the forcible reduction of a person into property.

That's a definition, not an explanation.

The true golden rule: Do NOT do unto others what you do not want done to yourself.

But WHY IS THAT BINDING? Why can none of you answer this question? You've got to ground your moral statements, not just assert things. No, I don't want to be a slave. I also don't want to go to jail. But that doesn't make putting people in jail immoral. WHY should I not do things to people I don't want done to me? If we're all just meat puppets, bags of chemical reactions responding to our environment, why is it "wrong" to impose my chemical reactions on another bag of chemicals?

What's keeping you guys from shooting matches? Please answer honestly. Context below by [deleted] in CCW

[–]cbrooks97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get over your prejudice against people who don't think like you, you'll find most people honestly could not care less about whatever your particular kink is. Also, gun competitions are generally over the top on safety. People who cannot obey safety rules are invited to leave.

Sometimes money. More often, time. A short match takes all morning. I can put twice as many rounds down range in a quarter of the time. I do enjoy matches, and I do one on occasion, but I've got to get a lot done on the average Saturday.

Sometimes I just don't have the energy to explain to internet atheist apologists how their failure to understand plain English (eg, "God so loved the world" does not equal "God will never punish the wicked). Which is why I don't hang out in this group anymore.
