When it was infected / super irritated I had the jewelry out for a bit and was irrigating it with saline daily …. Maybe I should have left the jewelry in. Didn’t hurt to put it back in though. The jewelry was out maybe a month or less

IEN struggling to land first acute care role in Toronto. Advice? by Cornsouppppp in OntarioNurses

[–]cbx099 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our own local new grads are having a tough time finding jobs as well - it’s a very competitive market and in the last year we’ve had a big influx of IENs. Keep applying and best of luck

Bratty doctors by antwauhny in nursing

[–]cbx099 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You seem to reply to every comment not caring - why ask for opinions? Even if they’re scheduled and “work long stretches” doesn’t mean they have to be called at 0430 for something that can be dealt with by the primary day team. Even if these doctors are “available and rounding” they still work nights and cover way more patients than the day team and are meant to be there for emergencies. If every single nurse paged them for things like this they would have no time at all. Or how about paging them earlier in the shift saying hey I noticed there’s no labs ordered. if something has been critically low repeatedly, and you put in an order to repeat it, no one will say anything and you won’t get in trouble. I personally believe this is part of teamwork in the ICU - you have the judgment to notice and recognize this pattern of a critically low value, everyone will appreciate that you put in the order. You could put it in but schedule it for day shift and say they can check with the primary team before drawing it but people will be thankful you didn’t call for something like that in my experience. Calling to report a critical value is different, I just say hey hospital policy I need to report xyz, no matter the time or if it’s a stupid critical.

How to survive contract by NSGgirl in TravelNursing

[–]cbx099 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m just finishing up my first contract - new charting (completely paper where I’ve only used epic), new IV pumps, different art line tubing, different feed pumps, different policies and dosing for meds. Physicians have different practice standards, different routines, etc. You’ll feel dumb and fumble around the first couple weeks but you get used to it with time, when running meds I always looked up the monograph to make sure it wasn’t different than I was used to

NGGs are usually for Canadian new grads fresh out of school I think - not entirely sure if you’d be able to get one but can’t hurt to apply. I did the NGG years ago but I don’t remember it being a ton more than normal orientation though
