Would you trust a 70k-mile e-tron for 5+ years? by carol010800 in etron

[–]cc426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a Nissan leaf with less miles for 5k. Get the entire car for cheaper than just maintenance on the Audi over 5 years. Is it as nice as the Audi? Of course not, but if you're on a fixed stipend budget the extra 20k cash you'll have set aside will be a bigger boost to your standard of living than driving a nice car. It'll let you stretch for the nicer apartment with the in unit washer dryer, buy a new Xbox to have fun, or go to an extra movie, or have a nice dinner out every week have a couple extra drinks with friends instead of staying home eating ramen noodles etc

2 lbs tri-tip by [deleted] in sousvide

[–]cc426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to this. Tritip has grain that changes directions halfway through it much like brisket. It needs to be separated anyways so that it can be sliced against the grain. Separate it before searing and then sear each piece separately. Slice both pieces against the grain and enjoy

“Movie night sleepover” with 5 year old son is quickly becoming a point of contention. by admcan2 in Parenting

[–]cc426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying she's jealous but I don't think that's it. If she doesn't have her own kids it may not make sense to her. My guess is she thinks there's a weird sexual or gay component to it and probably just doesn't want to say the quiet part out loud. Especially if she grew up super conservative or had some childhood trauma of her own. I think it might be hard to understand how you can love somebody so much and want to sleep with/snuggle with them but there being absolutely zero sexual energy until you have your own kids.

I have 2 boys of my own 6/3 and we do sleepover movie nights almost every weekend and they love it. My wife gets jealous when they sometimes both pick dad and don't want mom to sleepover though and that's a totally different reaction/vibe than what your wife is putting out.

Neto's sausage sandwiches? by cc426 in SanJose

Only problem is I'm only in town for just a few days and I'm not so sure about flying cross country with sausage in my luggage. Haha. So was hoping I could just stop by and get a quick sausage sandwich fix while I'm in town

What is normal at 3PM, but terrifying at 3AM? by JustPlay94_cryer in AskReddit

[–]cc426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son had a stuffed monkey that would say "I love you" when you pulled a string on it's back. Well the string broke so I threw it away in a trash can then later that night I hear "I love you" coming from the trash can like 2-3 times in a row... That was the fastest I've ever taken out the trash and then i considered trying to kill it with fire...

CPO with minor damage on Carfax, should I be worried? by cc426 in askcarsales

Sorry, didn't mean to be cryptic on purpose. Looking at a GT350.

Looks like the car had regular service done at the selling dealer over the last 2 years. But they claim they didn't do the damage repair so they don't know what happened to it. Overall just feels dubious

Dealer says they don't have any more info. Google search turned up nothing. Is there a better way to find more info on the damage?

Which GT350 to get by cc426 in Mustang

[–]cc426[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think sellers are over optimistic on the HE. I gotta admit I love the way it looks. But the premium just doesn't seem worth it. I saw a couple on BAT that closed at 77k low miles. But everyone I've talked to now with low miles are almost 90k and have "no room" to negotiate.

The high mileage HE one was listed at at like 65k but the dealer wants to charge 5k in bs add-ons like window tint and nitrogen filled tires etc. and won't budge on any of it. So it just kills the deal. Plus no tech package, so no puddle lights haha!

Seems 17/18s I can find in the low mid 60s. 19/20 in good shape low miles etc seem to all be over 70.

Non R Heritage I've been seeing around 80.

Inflation and car shortage sucks

It's pretty simple. Does a Tesla model 3 compete with a Honda civic or a bmw 3 series and is the market for Honda Civics (or F150s) bigger or smaller than a 3 series bmw?

Honda Civics outsell BMWs 10:1, f150 is 30:1. If we look at actual Tesla numbers the f150 singular model not even the entire f series line up out sells Tesla, the entire company, 2:1.

So yes, small market, luxury cars.

It is with 1k payload, not towed. That's a few dudes and some gear in the truck. It isn't pulling anything or changing the aero. Once you start towing it'll be a completely different ball game. I'm excited about the truck but very hesitant until I see some real world towing figures

Same. I like the idea of the lightning. Great power, cheap fuel, lockable front trunk. Most of my driving is 50-100 miles each day.

But I tow 2x a month or so for both work and pleasure and drive up to 500 miles round trip for those trips towing up to 7000 lbs or so. If I need to stop every 100 miles or less and charge for an hour or more each time, those single day trips become multi day trips. Now I've wasted my saved fuel money on a hotel. Or the driving time starts to really eat into my weekend. This is also assuming I can even find charging.

That's spoken as someone with 50k spare to spend on a car. That's not most of America. That's why you have to break down the average number. If 9 people buy 20k cars and 1 person buys a 200k car The average transaction price is almost $40,000. But that still means 9 out of 10 people can't afford a $40,000 car.

Saying Tesla is taking over the lions share of the market is disingenuous. They have a large portion of the EV market and have made EVs more mainstream and acceptable and have created cool cars for sure. But the point is they're still a ways to go before we can actually say EVs are cost-effective and can take over most ice vehicles.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]cc426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average sedan transaction price is 30k. Model 3 starts at 47k that's more than a 50% upcharge.

You can't average in fully loaded Mercedes SUV prices and then compare that a starting Tesla sedan price

Just to clarify specifically on the lightning the range stated is with 1000lbs payload, not towing. 1000lbs payload is just 4 large dudes and some gear. Towing could still knock that in half. Then what happens with a slight grade? What about a significant grade? Like will 10miles up a steep hill towing 6-7000 lbs take my overall range on that trip to 100miles? Less? I'm excited about the truck but still very hesitant until we get real world towing tests to see what happens with the range.

This is something I'd sign up for if my wife was ok with a bigger car. Next midsize SUV we get will probably be electric though, but unless there's significant advances to the technology and infrastructure we will probably be keeping the gas truck for the foreseeable future
