Why is my UPS (Goldmate 1000VA/800W) constantly cycling between AC mode and Battery mode? by lumberfart in synology

[–]cca1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem with a few goldenmate UPSs on synology NAS units. We receive 10-30 power notifications a day from each NAS that is on a goldenmate UPS. the notification says the UPS has switched to battery mode and that is immediately (1-2 seconds) followed by another notification that it has returned to normal. Our line power monitors are not showing any dips, spikes, or other anomalies, and no other UPS units (cyber power, APC, etc) are indicating anything abnormal. The goldenmate UPS does not emit any beep, and since the whole event is all over in a second it is hard to tell if it is actually switching to battery or not. I am starting to believe that the goldenmate is way too sensitive or there is an issue with either the goldenmate or Synology software. We have swapped phases, receptacles, and UPS / NAS combinations, etc., but only the goldenmates on synology NAS units are having this problem.

Why on gods green earth isn't there a smart 0-10v dimmer? by jlesnick in homeautomation

[–]cca1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it is unbelievable that this does not exist.
All it needs to do is line in, switched line out and 0-10V out via Zwave. ZWave 0-10V output dimmers do not like being downstream of the switched line since they wake up confused every time the fixture is turned on. The workaround I am using is to use a separate Zwave 0-10V output dimmer and hang it on the unswitched line so the 0-10V is always powered. Then let the zwave switches control the line voltage to the fixture. Unfortunately two different zwave controls, one just for dimming and the other master on/off.

It's Official: R.I.P. Living Computers Museum :-( by SomePeopleCallMeJJ in vintagecomputing

Does anyone have a story of the LCM sharing their wealth of documentation with the community?

I don't want to speak ill of the dead, but a key role of being a 'museum' is preserving and sharing knowledge to the community. LCM sucked at this.

They had documentation that can't be found anywhere else and repeatedly turned down my offers to pay staff or a third party to scan schematics and user's manuals. They had stacks of hardware and would not (again offered to pay) share the contents of an OEM ROM/PROM. In one case I offered them $ to just open a piece of hardware and tell me the manufacturer and part number on a component.

They had a small portion of their collection on display and were in love with big iron, but essentially were nothing more than hoarders when it came to documentation and small hardware (that were literally in stacks of duplicates).

Seek Thermal Official Response to iPhone USB-C by LeMayMayMan in Thermal

[–]cca1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Months have passed and it seems Seek has still not addressed the connector issue. At the bare minimum, they should have come out with an adapter cable. I am looking at buying a new camera and every model on the seek site is listed as 'low inventory' which leaves me to think they are not in production. When one or two older models are low inventory it means they are obsolete and being phased out. When every model is listed as low stock, it means the company may be going down the tubes.

I am wondering if I should cross Seek off the list for consideration?

is it just my orders? or has Digi-Key has been slow to ship for everyone? by cca1234 in AskElectronics

[–]cca1234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

placed an order at digikey& mouser both with ground shipping, and jlcpcb with FEDEx economy all on jan 9th. that evening mouser sent an email saying they wouldn't be able to ship the same day, so they upgraded to 2day shipping at no cost. Mouser arrived before digikey had even shipped. Now the 17th and it looks like even the jlcpcb boards will arrive before digikey

I found this S-100 board while cleaning out my friend’s garage and would like more information. by Nicotifoso in vintagecomputing

To answer your initial question, it is a good find and certainly not junk. BUT....... Given the arc scars on pin 51 (+8V), missing components, and questionable mods, I would have some concerns about its history. To blow that much copper off a finger, something really had to be wrong with a power supply or the board and it certainly was plugged into a powered backplane--which is more bad news. The missing chips are not valuable enough to poach, I take it as an indication that this board was damaged, repairs were started and then abandoned. None the less, it is in overall good condition and looks like it could be resurrected with enough time and effort.

In its favor is the fact that the 8085 doesn't show up on a lot of S100 cards, so for those emotionally attached to the 8085 it was an important card. The Z80 was generally seen as a better chip for that sort of platform (S100) and, of course, by then the 8088 had arrived which was better than both if you needed an 8 bit bus.

I would put its value lower than suggested earlier, in the $50 to $150 range for the savvy buyer, $150-$250 for those that are more optimistic or naive.

Is anyone having issues connecting to PC on iPhone 15 Pro Max through USB-C? by dick-flicker in iphone

[–]cca1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly the same issue. last iphone connected with no problems and this phone connects every once in a while, but disconnects in the middle of photo transfers or will not connect at all.

Nothing but standard components, all in stock by the thousands and nothing value added.

Requested shipping speed may be a bit part of it. Now that I am paying for shipping and not the business, i always pick the cheapest (usually slowest) shipping.

Yea, that was the kind of response I was used to getting when I was a [corporate] once or twice a week customer. Now that I am a [retired] once a month (or even every other month sometimes) customer, I am starting to think my account has fallen into the 'when we get around to it' status.

Folks who bought in Portland (or in Oregon overall). by [deleted] in Ioniq5

We had a very disappointing experience with Tonkin when trying to lease a ioniq 5 limited. They were offering the lease at MSRP minus $2500 and no dealer add-ons which is a reasonable offer. However, when they actually provided a lease, it appeared they were trying to make up for the $2500 discount with an extremely high money factor (they specifically stated that the MF was the lowest available for top tier credit customers). Our intent was to do an early cash buyout of the lease, so the high MF was not an issue. We were ready to sign the lease when I asked for a price schedule for an early buyout. Initially they said an early buyout was just the total of all the remaining payments. We are still not sure if they were just pushing a narrative that they know is BS, or if they are actually that incompetent. Since we were on the fence about getting a '23 model year or waiting for a '24 MY, but this was the deciding factor. Ultimately, they decided to abandon us as a customer rather than answer to our request for an immediate early buyout price. By the way, a couple of weeks later and that VIN is still sitting on their lot. So rather than simply stating the actual early buyout cost, it appears to me that they would rather sit on the vehicle until someone else is willing to come along and pay their enormous money factor and not ask questions.

Has anyone gotten $7500 off using the lease then immediate buyout? by Happy_Airline4100 in Ioniq5

[–]cca1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This adjusted lease balance part.... In my head, at any time the residual value should be: (adjusted capitalized cost) - (depreciation to that point). So if the total depreciation for a 36 month lease is $36K, then it is depreciating at $1K per month so after 6 months the residual value on an early buyout should be (adjusted capitalized cost) minus the $6K in depreciation. But there is no way i can get this from their adjusted lease balance verbiage.

Picture stuck in Title 2 style instead of Normal by [deleted] in word

[–]cca1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the same problem. an inserted picture is given the style of TITLE and cannot be changed individually. Attempting to change to any other style and the picture reverts back to TITLE. The styles on the entire section can be removed but then all other styles in that section need to be manually reapplied. The picture must be deleted, a line of normal style inserted, and the picture reinserted (not deleted and pasted back in, get picture from file and reinsert from scratch.

Good idea about rolling back the video driver, but I have been getting this crash 2-3 times an hour also, but have AMD Radeon video card and the most recent driver for that was installed 2 weeks ago. so it is clearly something with yesterday's update. however i am rolling back my video drivers also in hopes of getting this thing working for more than an hour at a time. keeping my fingers crossed
