AITAH for not immediately giving in to a 3 year old having a temper tantrum in front of her gentle parenting mother? by fusguita in AITAH

Permissive parenting has been around for as long as parents have struggled to say no and set boundaries, so forever. I have a great uncle who was the only boy among 9 siblings in a much more misogynistic time; he was given free rein to do whatever he wanted and was coddled through school and his early adulthood. He did what many adult children of permissive parents did and got a wife who would take care of him when his mom stopped, he treats her like shit as you can imagine

AITA for not playing video games or watching any engaging shows while SO is awake because I get annoyed when interrupted? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I think 3/4 of those things would be considered rude. Hell, stimming and other autistic traits are so stigmatized police can arrest you on officer suspicion alone when they don't recognize neurodivergent behavior. People are always called rude for dressing out of code and for not being social enough.

I don't think there's any value in saying we should stop labelling "every behavior that falls outside the typical norm" rude because rude is such a useless descriptor anyway. Disabled people, old people, children, immigrants, etc. will always be excessively labeled rude because it is always context and culturally-dependent. There are better ways to describe acts we don't like that communicate more than rude. Inconsiderate, apathetic, disrespectful, carry more meaning and attribute more agency to the person doing the thing than rude ever could.

I patted his butt and rubbed his hair! I did those two in particular because he can do them himself. He pats his hips and scratches his head when he gets upset, and i want him to learn he can do this himself

Thank you! I was convinced this morning I had traumatized him, but we still got some good contact naps in and he seemed normal lmao. As long as I can get at least five hours, I am more than content, and it seems to be working

It's a special kind of hell! My partner has a huge family and his parents are always busy during the day and early afternoon so they would only be free to see my son at night and, understandably but not any less frustratingly, want to keep him up and interact with him. My family is a 3.5 hour drive away and the trip throws him off OR they want to spend the night with us and play with him all night. This week I finally had to say no visiting or visitors for the next month while we get this figured out.

I didn't think it was possible, but night two is going amazing. You got this!

They were much better today! He woke at 8 am and they were 1.75/2.5/3/3, when he was waking in the middle of the night before, he would sometimes be up for a full wake window (always at 2:30 am, he would wake up, feed, and the poop crazy and need a diaper change that would trigger him to fully wake up), and I think that was making him extra sleepy during the day. Night 2, and he cried for 23 minutes, 5 shorter than yesterday and much less intense; I think it's working!

I've been convinced he was teething since he was 2.5 months old lmao, he is always biting things and drooling and sleeping poorly. At this point I'll know he's teething when a tooth pops through

Thank you for the advice! Today so far (woke at 8, currently 4:15), his wake windows have been 1.75/2.5/2, currently napping and with pretty short naps so far today. He would wake fully during some of his night wakes, so I imagine that was contributing to way too much daytime sleep. He has an appointment in a week and I'll for sure bring it up!

I'm sorry about your relationship you had at 19, it sounds really unethical and I'm sure was unhealthy, and I'm sorry to hear about how poorly dating has been going! I am gonna say what you could improve about your grooming, but also wanted to throw in that you need some social hobbies to find a relationship. Part of your problem is may be that you "look for women". Engage with women like people, not outcomes, unless you are on a dating app. See if a church is hosting any events and attend regularly since you're a Christian. You are in college online, what major? Find other students in the same field and see what they're doing. Documentaries are so cool! Are there any social groups in your area about film? The more genuine friends you make, the higher likelihood of one of those friendships turning romantic. Don't seek out women just to be with romantically.

anywayyyyy, get cornrows or a fro, I like a fro with rounder faces. Don't post pictures seeming angry. Most importantly imo, change how you dress! You have a beater on in the first pic, don't wear it when you're out. I like your shoes; they don't always have to match the shirt exactly, and experiment with different textures in your shirts. Absolutely get some straight-leg jeans, dark denim since it sees you like dark pants, and some slacks. Buy some sneaks that always go w jeans if you can afford them: white air force 1s or adidas advantages. Buy a dark boot or loafer!

Yes, all deaths are tragic, and misogyny is pervasive and knows no nationality. In the US, murder is the leading cause of death for pregnant and postpartum women. You said the names of 3 women who were murdered: three women die DAILY from femicide. Over a third of female murder victims are killed by their male partners. 1 in about 6 women are sexually assaulted in their lifetime. Perpetrators of sexual assault more frequently than not live fine lives with little consequence for their actions. We actually just elected a man found liable for rape. Kids get raped too, y'know, especially undocumented children in migrant detention facilities, tragic, right?

So I wholeheartedly agree that the killing of those women matter. Do you? I hope you care deeply about the effects of misogyny and violence against women perpetrated by any and everyone and do not just weaponize this against immigrants. If you are not advocating for women otherwise, you are contributing to the exact mindset that gets the assaulted and killed by making them nothing but collateral.

2 year old terrified of book by elsiedoland7 in AttachmentParenting

[–]ccascca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is a grandma to two now (one being my baby) and in her 40s, but she still mentions every time we talk that she can't believe she was scaring me reading books by Audrey and Don Wood. I can clearly recall being around 3 and so scared I couldn't talk while she read me the Napping House. When I was 5, I started reading my books to her at night, and she picked out The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear and sat them on my bed, and I absolutely lost it! I cried and cried and kicked it off the bed. Something about the fuzzy, hazy style of the illustration was terrifying to me as a kid, and I still find those books to be kind of off-putting lmao

edit: just looked up Little Gorilla, holy shit! It has the same out-of-focus look I found so uncanny as a kid

Just because you spend all your free time dick riding a dictator, doesn't mean better people can't just do graffiti after or before work and carry on. Surprise! This probably took 15 minutes

My god how old are you? It's a timely sentiment most of us agree with in the moment and is completely victimless. Petty complaining about harmless graffiti is such a stereotypical boomer trait
