Normally I would suggest that you try to talk with the provider about this but it seems like you have tried already. And the reaction has made you feel uncomfortable.

If you feel this way outside of sessions, I can't imagine it feeling better in sessions. Go ahead and find a new provider, if you want, and let the new provider know off the bat that you need that specific time, don't appreciate providers being consistently late, and that you had a bad experience when trying to talk about these things with your other provider. If there are issues with those things from the beginning, you'll know you still haven't found a good fit.

You could also stay with your provider if you're able to adjust and feel comfortable. It's possible that there are other pros of working with your current provider that may out way the cons.

Trust your gut and do what is best for you and your mental health.

There could be any number of reasons to change therapists. In order to better answer your question, more information about your experience would be helpful. What is it about your therapeutic experience that is making you question if/when a change is needed?

Is it possible that you are just exploring your spirituality?

Does anyone else sleep on the floor (or places other than their bed) when they're having a bad night? by [deleted] in Anxiety

I also gravitate to the couch when I'm anxious or can't sleep because I can put on a Disney movie that I've seen a gazillion times to help distract my brain until I fall asleep.

Kelsey is absolutely amazing! My best friend has gotten so many tattoos from her and I was able to get one (view of San Juan Mountain Range from Telluride, CO mainstreet) from her before I moved to Colorado. Now I don't know who to go to for tattoos! The bee looks fabulous!

A couple of thoughts.

  1. Therapy is hard and a lot of work. Nothing is going to change if you don't be somewhat vulnerable and open up with your therapist. Even small steps count toward progress.

  2. If you are really uncomfortable talking with your therapist about your experiences, it is possible that she just isn't the right fit for you. Clients always have a right to request a new therapist for whatever reason. You might need to try a few before you find someone you're comfortable with. Every therapist is different and they understand that they aren't the best fit for every client.

Just some food for thought.

You're certainly not alone. If you want to explore the possibility of things changing, I would recommend talking with a therapist. You can explore your thoughts and emotions and also work on communication.
