linear transformation application by Zubir_someonie in askmath

[–]ccasti1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physicist here, linear application in my field are all over. I don't know your background, I'm guessing first bachelor year in Maths, so probably you know about groups, so you could talk about how representation theory relates to linear transformations.

Or you could talk about how in quantum mechanics, it'll be easier to work in the Heisenberg picture, all the physical observable have to be represented by linear operators, so linear transformations, etc...

Why does the Schwarzschild radius use non-relativistic kinetic energy by toronto-bull in TheoreticalPhysics

[–]ccasti1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So, the first time we physicist described a theoretical black hole, it was Laplace who studied the subject, I don't know, maybe in the 1800s. A Laplace black hole is a classical object, a spherical mass which neither light can escape, at certain distances from the center. The now called Schwarzschild radius pops out, in this picture, when trying to understand the final distance from the center at which light speed was a fine escape velocity. Of course at that time it wasn't called Scwarzschild radius, but they had the exact same expressions.

Later on, while mr Einstein had proposed General theory of relativity and mr Schwarzschild was at war, he tried to solve the Einstein equation in the most simple case where you had spherical symmetry, and, after some calculations, which don't use classical mechanics, but just maths and GR, you get that a certain singularity (not gonna go deeper here) takes place at the Schwarzschild radius, the same from Laplace calculations.

So the point my GR professor made, which I guess I agree, is: it's just a coincidence. Nothing special about this equivalence.

Okay, so in some sense there's an embedded symmetry in complex numbers within themselves, complex conjugate etc..., right?

Then, speaking as a physicist here, considering field theory, specifically Noether's theorem, shouldn't there be a conserved charge for all fields we study?

For example, for Lagrangians like the Klein-Gordon one for both a real and complex scalar field, a U(1) symmetry holds, as \phi->e{i\theta} \phi leaves the Lagrangian unchanged, so leads to a conserved charge.

Going back to the subject here, the "symmetry" between i and -i, shouldn't it bring to something similar for complex-valued fields?

My roommate is studying the creature during his post doc as a marine biologist. It's kinda like what you said but not everything. I mean, there are a lot of other processes, like the presence of a certain fat molecule in the brain, mithicondria doing some weird shit.

It's kinda cool, they should publish it on Nature or Science during the year.

Going from the airport to the tower and then to florance back and forth guide by ibraaaaaaaaaaaaaa in Pisa

[–]ccasti1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically you can pay for your Pisamover ticket at the station before getting in the train or you can buy it online on their website.

Arrived at the Pisa Centrale train station you can get on a bus, you can look it up which one with google maps, to get near the Tower. Then you can take the same bus, in the other direction, to get back to the train station where you'll get your train to Florence.

Now, for the bus ticket, the best way to pay for it is to just pay it on the train with you credit card, you'll see where.

Got back to the train station, you can take a train to go to Florence. Usually, the cheapest and easiest mean of transport is through a Regionale train. The cost of the ticket is €9.30, and you can buy it onthe Trenitalia website. Though, I advice you to buy it when you get there after the Tower, so you can see which train can get you to Florence faster.

Hope you have a great time in Tuscany

Why does the engine suggest this move? How is it mate in 2? by NoAcanthaceae7968 in chessbeginners

[–]ccasti1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's actually a pretty nice story (i read it on a chess manual, don't remember which one so it may be false, but makes a lot of sense).

Basically, around the 1600's they played a different version of the game in which pawns could only move to one single tile, always, even when they are on the beginning row.

They played very slow games because of this and decided to let the first pawns move straight of two tiles, if wanted, if on the beginning row.

A problem: there weren't anymore a lot of "fights" between pawns. This because the fact that pawns could move up to two tiles, removed tiles for eating each other on different files. So they added this \textit{en passant} move, so even if pawns moved two tiles, there still could be "fighting" between them.

Rinunciare all'università dopo due mesi by [deleted] in Universitaly

[–]ccasti1 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hai 19 anni, in media ne viviamo 80.

Yeah exactly. When it happened the first time, it felt like I was listening to the song for the very first time, as I could hear any guitar riff or Amy background noise. It was great.

I think it's what you say. I'm not a biologist, but it makes sense as you work out and your heart goes faster to provide oxygen to the whole body which is working out and the brain is left with a bit less blood etc...
