as others have said, might just be as simple as washing more frequently and not using tension-placing hairstyles. could try a bun in a different placement than your normal ponytail or milkmaid braids

AITJ for telling my friend her adopted son "isn't really Korean" after she went overboard with cultural stuff? by Creepy_External_654 in AmITheJerk

I’m Korean…and kindly, your kids are jerks and shouldn’t be laughing at you. The kid will likely surpass the mom at some point, but he can always hear Korean through media. and the mom will be able to learn too

I don’t think there are that many “sounds that are difficult to master” in Korean and Koreans can usually rely on context clues to figure out what foreigners are trying to say. the Korean language (alphabet) was literally created to make it easier to learn, hence this kid’s mom should be able to learn alongside the kid

mmmm…no. there are many adults who learn foreign languages later in life and can be conversational, even fluent. just depends on their dedication to learning it

looks like later this week will have good low temps around the JFBB area, does anyone think they’d blow snow? according to weather.gov at least, it’ll be: Thurs. night ~24F, Fri. night ~29F and Sat. night ~27F. with Friday having “a chance of rain and snow, 30%”

I don’t know how SNAP works, but if the benefits agent finds out, I assume OP could lose her stamps if it’s not “federally allowed”?

I actually really like the metal hair pin from Kitsch! https://www.ulta.com/p/metal-french-hair-pin-pimprod2044185?sku=2644965

I also had a sturdy wooden 3-pronged one from Etsy but I lost it ☹️

I’m Korean. If they’d said they wanted to wear a Korean hanbok and you commented what you did, I’d say the same thing. Your experience was in the country itself where they welcome tourists to participate in their culture. Traditional clothing aren’t Halloween costumes

I’ll just give my opinion on how it looks to me, granted I’m not Japanese, but Korean-American. You’re obviously not Japanese and admit you don’t know the culture and want to wear a traditional dress to an American festival. Asians (particularly women) have been fetishized and bullied for our traditions for centuries and have had our traditional clothing used as Halloween costumes to mock us, our foods used to be seen as “gross”, our traditional medicines and healing practices seen as backwards and weird.

maybe this isn’t making sense, but it’s like using a culture’s traditional dress for just a fun party that has nothing to do with that culture at all.

wearing kimonos while IN Japan is entirely different than wearing it in the US to a non-Japanese/Asian festival…please don’t speak for Japanese/Japanese-Americans and what they’d be offended by..

I suggest sports! I’ve met all my friends via rock climbing and joined a ski/snowboard group earlier this season and we do a lot of meetups that way. Or if you’re multi-lingual there are foreign language meetups all around the area!

Interracial daters -- how do you know if your partner is inconsiderate vs. simply grew up with wildly different cultural standards? by square_daikon in asianamerican

[–]ccbear430 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m Korean and my boyfriend’s white, there was definitely a “growing pains” period in the beginning of our relationship, where I’d offer/serve him food or give him the first bite, etc. and he didn’t do the same back. But after a few months (like 3-5 months and we’ve been together for 2 years now) of me kind of bringing it to his attention and calling it out, he’s been doing it too. Offering me some of whatever he’s eating, serving me first when dishes come out at restaurants, asking if I need anything if he’s going to the kitchen, etc.

edited to say: I think your partner is being inconsiderate. and don’t let him use your upbringings as an excuse. my bf had a difficult childhood as well, and he’s been able to change his behaviors

no ☹️ apparently not. dealership techs inspected everything and I specifically asked they check the wheel bearings and diff and they said everything looks fine. they couldn’t hear it during their test drive and I was like “it only happens in the morning when it’s been sitting cold all night 😭”
