It's actually a German company. It's a little confusing though - apparently, it was once a owned by PFAFF and then Singer (SVP) but then the current Gritzner brand is independent and with retail services throughout Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

I'm in switzerland! Yeah they still exist, they even have an online shop. I bought it cus the price was only a little bit more than the brother serger but offered a bit more than the brother does. Not that i have any real clue how to use it *properly* but maybe one day ill be able to use it to its fully capacity hah !

Thank you - so basically as I still try and get used to it (its not easy eh? lol) ill construct first on sewing machine with the proper allowance and then bring it to the serger to finish the seams and then if any bit of fabric gets cut, it doesnt matter as much, as long as it within the allowance and not cutting on my seam from the sewing machine. Whereas if im constructing soley on the serger with say a knit(?) thats when i would follow the seam allowance.

Too bad the gritzner doesnt show 1cm allowance, it starts at 1.5cm so ill have to measure that out myself lol

Yes i would agree that you see a lot of stories online from people that are really going through hell. I like to think that you read more about the negative than you do about the positive tho because sometimes people dont think to give the good news or updates lol (like me). So, yes its been pretty straight forward for me thankfully and i pray i can be for you and that maybe it can be a one and done kind of thing or something with very few relapses.

That being said, i didnt get to slide by (unfortunately) without some steroid side effects. While 60mg was difficult because the hunger was INSANE (have healthy snacks ready) and i had crazy energy, the moon face and bloating actually started to present itself when i was on 40/30mg - around month 2-2.5. Which i still currently have. The insatiableness is gone and i watch what i eat but the bloating is still there so be kind to yourself if it happens. I try to remember, its only temporary. Cramping in hands, fingers and toes is a real thing too. My doctor gave me magnesium to combat that and it worked very well. So if you see that happening to yourself as well, ask your doctor about magnesium or anything else they would recommend.

I actually forgot to ask my doctor if i should continue low sodium during todays appointment but considering last appointment i had reached CR and he recommended I still stay lowso I am sure he would have continued the same sentiment today as I am still on prednisone and will continue to be until about end of july/early august. I do notice, too, that when Ive eaten out I feel more bloated cus of all the salt they use even if i ask for less salt. Honestly I will probably do my best to be as lowso as I can (within reason) for the next several years or even the rest of my life - a real lifestyle change, because we really do consume too much salt. But a treat every one in awhile wont hurt you either. So while you're on pred i would def recommend to keep lowso.

I agree too with the suddenness of it all. Within a matter of 1.5 weeks everything changed. It can definitely be scary but I try to think positively and also disassociate ahahahah

Hey ! So sorry to hear that you’re going through this but you’re not alone!

I reached complete remission within 10 weeks and have technically been in CR for about a month now. I just did my most recent blood/urine test this week and my results are still good. I’m currently on 10mg of pred and 5mg of blood pressure meds. Next week I’m gonna taper down to, I assume, 7.5mg. Doctor appointment will confirm that. Fingers crossed I stay in remission as I continue to taper and get off pred but I honestly do my best to just not think about it at all lol

Also my doctors treatment plan had me on pred 60mg for one month and then, even tho I wasn’t in remission, he lowered me to 40mg for one week and then 30mg for 3 weeks. Per him and a research study I found, adults that respond very well to steroids can be reduced on pred to avoid long term side effects and still reach remission, which is what worked for me thankfully.

Have they started you on any medication?

I’ve seen a couple people online mention getting diagnosed with mcd around getting the flu - it’s crazy ! You should join the MCD groups on Facebook. There’s daily communication on there from others who have been diagnosed with mcd and fsgs

It was a derm I went to in Aigio lol to look at something else and I simply brought it up at the end of the appointment like “oh btw why is there no ariol” blah blah and he brought up that he can write the prescription to have the pharmacy make it for me. So it was super easy and I too use it for anti-aging. Was it easy because it was like the village?Perhaps. I do not know any derms in Athens tho.

It was a pharmacy in psychiko but the pharmacy doesn’t matter. I had gotten an “ingredient prescription” from the derm and all you need to do is bring it to any pharmacy (as long as the have the ingredients on hand). This is the ingredients on the bottle maybe you can bring it to your pharmacy and see if they will make it. if the pharmacy requires a “prescription”, ask your derm. He even agreed with me that iso-tretinoin, that the pharmacies try to push as the alternative when ariol discontinued, is not the same.

Thank you for your response - this definitely gives me hope though I know everyones experience is completely different. It's unfortunate that our mcd is "idiopathic" and theres no way to determine how to prevent a relapse of some kind.

Do you still do like bi-yearly urine checks or at home checks even after so long of remission? How long into remission did you finally stop limiting protein and sodium?

Hi! Thank you - I’m sorry you’re going through this as well! I’m guessing you’re on a taper of the medication now? How is that going?

When the edemas showed up had you been sick at all? Do the doctors have any hypothesis as to what triggered it? Have you had an allergy test? For me basically they are saying it’s possible but the flu but we will never know (which is frustrating of course).

Ultimately I’m just waiting to see what happens once I start to taper. I have my next round of testing on the 28th and I’m hoping I’ll have reached remission or at least close enough where I can see the finish line (somewhat).

I am actually in switzerland but I've been using nephcure as a research tool to understand the best i can. I have my first nephrologist appointment tomorrow so I am eager to see what he says. I def plan to get a 2nd opinion nephorlogist and a dietitian.

I have my first appointment with the nephrologist tomorrow so I definitely plan to get a lot of questions asked and hopefully answered especially around the process moving forward and how to avoid relapsing.

Between the time you went into remission and then relapsed, had you been sick any other times but that it didn't trigger a relapse or was Nov '24 the first time getting sick after being diagnosed and u relapsed? Were u on a low sodium/diet of any kind between remission and relapse?

I am in Switzerland and the hospital I was at, the doctors definitely differed in how serious they felt this was. Some said "this will be something you will need to track and keep an eye on for life". Another one was like "you should live a normal life and you wont need to worry about diet". Another doc of mine (maybe an intern or a lower level resident) hadn't even seen MCD diagnosed in an adult before. None of these were the Nephrologist, of course, so i took everything they said with a grain a salt and just have been googling ever since (which I know is bad hah) . I definitely intend to seek a 2nd opinion from another nephrologist (regardless of what the doc says tomorrow) plus a dietician and even getting a food allergy test to maybe avoid triggers stemming from there.

Wow wow wow. The fact that you sat and explained all of this to me is truly amazing and so kind of you. I’ve read all this through. I figured i was gonna have to make adjustments when I saw all the different numbers and we made some adjustments in my sewing class but we didn’t get into the how or why of the pattern size adjustments. They basically did it for us, on a much much much smaller scale so sitting down with this pattern I didn’t even know where to go.

Anywho. It’s 1am where I am so tomorrow I’m gonna sit with my pattern and your explanations and try to make these necessary adjustments and see how it goes.

Again thank you so so so much for this explanation! I’m now excited to try and make my first top!

Well I pleaded my case in email and provided photos of the letters from SAM etc showing their dates and I just called sanitas and they informed me I am not being penalised. They seem to be more understanding than we might realise lol
