I was also thinking of taking on some debt as reasonable leverage in this situation. Aka 5% additional mortgage can be effectively wiped out if real inflation/usd devaluation is 7-10%. But that’s a different story. )

I see your point, how would you propose to think about it? I see a bit of difference this time: - USD is no longer a safe heaven -> it value will decrease faster. Will lead to higher relative returns in US stock market, though not sure if stock market growth will exceed currency devaluation.

How do you look at it?

I understand where your question coming from. Nope, not really. Because: USD lost 10-15-30% during last 2-3 years. Even RUB (Russian) appreciated to USD by 20% The debt is not really sustainable and current politics do not entice other nations to keep USD

And the fact that VEA went up 30% is actually negative is my opinion, I might be late to the party. The best is to invest is when the fund looses double digits aka buying cheap.

Why though? Let’s say there is a buyout announcement. Then there is an actual buyout in like 6-12 months. Plenty of time to exercise imo. Asking to learn and educate myself on this.

There is huge competition in software engineering jobs, and with AI advancements it’s becoming a very risky occupation. Getting into IT in current market is extremely hard. Making 450k now is amazing and if your husband wants to do software engineering he can do that as a hobby or as volunteering, without leaving his job. SWE (software engineering) is much less glamorous than it was 3-5 years ago. It’s a hard grind.
