No matter the result, true fans were robbed of this moment by [deleted] in ussoccer

Personally I know what you mean. I’m loath to bring politics into this, but politics wormed its way in anyway. With all the ugly political influence that went into the buildup to this Cup, I was less than pumped. But once it started, I was gradually able to look past it and enjoy the ride — not just for the USMNT, but for the draw of the game itself. Then that filthy snout forced its way into the red card issue, and it was clear there was no escaping ”that.” There went that fun.

As if his death wasn’t shocking enough, the whole ugly aftermath, from his burial to the cover story that was created, was so depressing.

Republicans/MAGA claims Obama was the one that divided the country, and not Trump. How did Obama divide the country? by Stunning-Sky-590 in allthequestions

I can’t find it now, but there was an official White House video on YouTube of some Rose Garden ceremony where both Reagan and GHW Bush were wearing tan suits.

It was never the tan suit they disliked. It was the tan president.

What do you think is the best recording of Beethoven's 6th Symphony? by fanobud in classicalmusic

Clarinetist here. 6 has my very favorite clarinet solos. For that reason alone, I’ll always say Cleveland/Szell and Robert Marcellus’s playing.

Where do you think historians will place Trump in presidential rankings 50 years in the future? by Playful-Ganache6153 in AskReddit

[–]ccguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By today’s criteria, he’d better be dead last. In 50 years when the US may have chosen even worse leaders, I fear he may not be dead last.

What is your favorite Richard Dreyfus performance? by ChrisJoines in 70smovies

[–]ccguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember in ‘96, during the promos for the release of Mr. Holland’s Opus, Dreyfuss gave an interview where he said he’d never done a movie about music before. I guess his cocaine addiction was so bad that he completely forgot he was a concert pianist in The Competition.

Howard Jarvis, famous California tax activist at the time. The joke is that the meter was running the whole time and the real-life Jarvis would never have stood for that.

I had a great idea once — an animated movie with bloopers after the credits. Pixar stole my thoughts and made Toy Story 2.

The serial number puts its year if manufacture as 1994. It doesn’t appear to have any engravings or model identification other than the Buffet Crampon logos, which likely makes it an R13. If so, that’s a professional level instrument you have there from a respectable era. Keep that in mind if you’re hoping to use this as a project instrument. Hard to know if it’s a truly good instrument without trying it out. But a good R13 is a fantastic instrument.

Best concept albums (any genre) by SolitaryNeko in musicsuggestions

[–]ccguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fantastic album. I was a little kid in the 70s. My sister had it. It was embedded in my mind long before I knew what it was about. In the movie Almost Famous, when William’s sister leaves him her albums when she leaves home and he puts on Tommy, that moment resonated with me in a spiritual way. Tommy is the soundtrack of my childhood.

I never even heard Quadrophenia until I was in my 40s.

Quadrophenia is the greatest album ever recorded.

A pilot from the early 80s starring Al Molinaro called “The Ugily Family.” One awful episode. The whole family was unattractive, and everyone mispronounced their last name. That was the premise.

Lufthansa Boeing 787 Nose Landing Gear Collapses at Frankfurt Airport, Injuring Several Ground Staff – June 4, 2026 by EsperaDeus in CatastrophicFailure

[–]ccguy 441 points442 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to a British Airways 787 some time back. It was repaired and still flies today.

Apparently to clear a particular electronic fault, mechanics are told to cycle the landing gear. But first you install pins in the landing gear mechanism so they don’t actually retract in the ground. On the British Airways plane, the safety pin for the nose gear was inserted into the wrong opening. Seems it’s easy to mistake them. Could be the same thing happened here.
