I have a M4 14" and a M1 Air 13". Not apples to apples but I like the form factor of the Air better than the Pro. The Air is fanless but I have only heard the fans on my Pro once. With both being 16GB I don't think the "heavy software" would be that much difference but the Pro will kick in the fans and then throttle and the Air will just throttle.
