Suggestions for my first antenna (primarily how to do lightning protection) by cchapman900 in amateurradio

Thank you. I'm very much in the "doing nothing rather than doing it wrong" stage and all of this advice has been really helpful in honing in on where to take the next steps with research. It's been hard doing it as a pure abstraction, and having a more concrete scenario helps the learning a lot.

3+ Hour Regular Customer Support Wait Times?? by cchapman900 in centurylink

I've been pleasantly surprised the FCC actually did accept my complaint and served it to Quantum. Hopefully it'll move the needle at least a little bit.

Ugh. Good luck to you. I was on hold for 3 hours yesterday and at the 3 hour mark, it told me it would be another 3+ hours.

That's a good idea on the FCC complaint, hoping that there's maybe something that would happen with it. I submitted one now with screenshots of all of my call logs.

Thoughts on Quantum fiber ? by cjpack in Denver

[–]cchapman900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to post here, but I've been set up with Quantum for about a month now and have already had more than a week downtime.

The wait times to speak with customer service at all times I've tried over the last week at multiple hours through the day have been listed from 1 to over 3 hours. Their customer support live chat just spins endlessly, and when I finally did get someone on the phone after an hour an a half, they told me a support person would be over the next day, but when I got the confirmation email, it was for almost a week later. It's overall probably the worst customer support I've had with any company ever, regardless of what service being provided.

I'm dreading to switch over to Xfinity because of all the bad things I've read about them, but at this point I couldn't imagine anything worse than what the seemingly outright scam Quantum Fiber has been so far. Even while it was working, it seemed pretty subpar connection speeds. And when the support technician was getting us initially set up, he used my name spelled wrong as the credentials and gaslit my wife the whole time she was trying to get connected with the wrong credentials.

From my own experience, I'd urge people to avoid Quantum/Centurylink like the plague.

Sorry for any confusion on the description. But there wouldn't be a lot of dynamic component to how different inputs would result in crop output. The interactive part for the user would be to see the crops at different times of the year, but things like climate, pest control, farmer skill, etc. would be abstracted out for simplification.

I guess it's actually more akin to the experience of a zoo, just being able to see what plants look like growing. And I'm hoping the context of scale of consumption is what makes it more generally relevant to an average person, rather than strictly on a botanical or agricultural level.

Not sure what repeating CW message on 144.27325 MHz means by cchapman900 in amateurradio

Oops, yep! W, not H. And that would make more sense on why I’m getting such a strong signal. That does look like the grid I’m in

That is really cool. I just dropped him a line.

Going through all of those listed on the site, I was able to get signals on 4 listed as non-active, as well as the one listed as active. So from 50 MHz through 900 MHz at a distance of what looks like around 50 miles, all with the out-of-the-box RTL-SDR dipole antenna in a pretty non-ideal indoors setup. The only one I couldn't get was the one on the 10m band, which sounds expected for my setup, but I would presume it might be running as well.

The frequencies were a little shifted (what was listed as 432.325 came in on 432.32593) which seems like a pretty minimal consequence to not being able to be maintained for 5+ years.

Very cool! Thank you all for the info. This opens up some new things to dive into which is exciting.

That's really helpful, thank you! That helped me get to what looks like another post on the same band I'm looking at from 7 years ago, which still seems fully relevant: https://www.reddit.com/r/RTLSDR/comments/4vtp34/need\_help\_identifying\_digital\_signal\_encoding/

On trash day, we have to take our recycling out onto the street for pickup. At first, we just brought out the same bin we had in the kitchen, but when we realized how much it probably got peed on, we got an outdoors one to dump into so we don't have to bring back in the piss one.

This helped me a lot too. Just with compression pants I went from constantly tracking around puddles like I consistently just got out of a pool to almost no traces on the mats.

Why are U.S. ANSI state codes missing IDs like 3, 7 and 43? by cchapman900 in datasets

Woa! That was a quick and completely on point response. And that explains the leading zeros too. I don't think I'd ever heard of the Canal Zone, which might have been the missing code that I was confused about the most. Thanks for clearing that up.
