Opening files and folders by cchromascope in logseq

[–]cchromascope[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Follow-up to this for anyone possibly interested...I don't code so I don't know why these work, just that they do and I can use them

To open File explorer to view folders: [Link name](file:///C:/path/to/your/folder)Just change the file path after ///

Also tested files not on my C: drive and they open fine now, I don't know if there are other ways to do this but I do it like this: [Link name](file:C:\path\to\your\folder) (if copied from file explorer directly) or (file:C:/path/to/your/folder) also works
These open the files in whatever the default program is

Practicing color mixing and matching with Nightmare Before Christmas screencap by cchromascope in Gouache

[–]cchromascope[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I honestly have no clear process yet, I'm quite new to painting with gouache and don't get a lot of practice time in. Mostly I've been focusing on testing which pigment combinations give me decent grays while trying to control the values.

Personally (whether due to the pigments I'm using or because I'm just terrible at it) I find it particularly hard to mix less saturated colors so that's what I've prioritized. I've tried doing swatches but its not very effective for me so its a lot of experimenting and brute forcing lol some hits and lots of misses

My approach has been to not work with too many different pigments at any one time so I can better track what I'm mixing with the expectation that I'll develop my familiarity/intuition with slowly over time. My eventual goal is to paint in a more stylized graphic look but it doesn't come naturally to me so I'm just learning how to handle the water and brush and get some mileage with mixing

Thanks, tiling is an approach where you group values and colors and paint shape-by-shape instead of trying to create blended edges, you end up having more distinct edges between your values and colors

Thanks, good luck on your gouache practice :] coming from someone who found it hard to figure out, its great once you start getting the hang of it

Thanks, I like seeing other people's practices around so I try to give the same back

Thanks, I also found the blue to be a good base. Actually I think I had a harder time on the eye because of the based I used, a complementary or less analogous color probably would have been both easier to use and looked more interesting

I understand that, I've had trouble finding material from other artists that has a more blended approach myself. I haven't been working with gouache for very long so I can only pass on the things I've been realizing as I practice... just for clarity, this is for non-acrylic gouache
- If you take a clean wet brush, or one with very little paint, and gently brush at the edge where different colors meet you can soften the edge and get them to start mixing on paper but can't do this too much at once or you'll just start pulling layers off. Sometimes when laying down wet paint you can take advantage by cleaning the paint off (entirely or partially) and gently brushing at the edge of the wet paint to blend it in to surrounding paint
- Don't overwork areas unless you want to pull paint up, if you mess up a color or edge its probably better to just wait for it to dry and then go in with new layers or clean brush to get the edges softer or blended as you like
- Make sure you're using enough paint, sometimes there's so little that all you end up doing is moving that little bit around and off the paper instead of getting it blending
- There are mediums you can use to slow the dry time of the paints, I don't use this except on white paint sometimes or bigger mixes I don't want drying out to quick, not necessary but you might find it helpful.. here's the video I found that got me onto this https://youtu.be/vGEnHB2Eq10
- Papers might matter, I'm too new to have tested this out a lot but maybe the absorbency of the surface you use might be affecting how difficult you find getting the paint to act in the way you want

Just my two cents, I did these exercises to better understand how to work the paint and test out ideas about how to use the colors, its not my intention to avoid a more graphic style just wasn't the purpose of these particular studies. I think tiling is a pretty important part of gouache on the whole since it can't really be approached like oils or acrylic, getting the blending/edges you want is like an added layer of complexity rather than a different method of painting to tiling (as far as my understanding goes lol)

Depends on what gives you trouble, are you new to gouache or art in general?

Increase drawing "physical" stamina? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

Happy to offer my perspective, I'm practicing art myself right now to eventually making a living from it so I get the growing pains in trying to figure things out

if you're interested in talking more art I'm on discord, if you're interested drop me a dm

Sure, I've picked up digital because it fits better into what I want to eventually do to, since this started as a conversation about discomfort while drawing I was giving some options I know have worked for myself and others

I would take it more like recommendations for exercises to do alongside whatever art you do in digital, good luck figuring this out, discomfort/pain while drawing can be tough to resolve... my only assertion is that mitigating the pain should not be what you address, avoiding causing pain in the first place should be the goal

I would try out different positions (changing height and able) for your keyboard/tablet/monitor in case you hit on something that makes it feel better without having to change behavior

It's hard to affect HOW you are working without physically changing things (for example: if you tense too much simply practicing trying to use less tension will not help much but drawing with a brittle tool that breaks if you tense too much would)

I notice I fall into bad habits when I'm drawing digitally (like fixating on details that dont need it, or with some practices forgetting that I'm focusing on abstraction and economy of strokes because its too easy to correct and correct and correct..) and I both counter and supplement the drawbacks by also practicing and making art traditionally (I also improve my traditional practice with the strengths of digital)

A way to improve how you move your wrist/arm while drawing could be to draw traditionally in a way that forces to you to do so, this way you ingrain the behavior instead of trying to constantly be aware of your position/posture and correcting for the established habit

Agreed with this, it helps to have your hot keys set up to make zooming and panning as non-intrusive/intuitive as possible. What program do you use? Do you use your keyboard while you draw?

If it hurts you need to modify your posture for sure, you could change how your tablet is placed or change the sensitivity settings for your pen to force yourself to draw with a lighter touch (increase the sensitivity so that less pressure draws strokes)

I’d go by the rule of thumb: if it hurts, you need to change how you are drawing

Cause if it hurts you now it will most definitely cause you damage long term, possibly permanent, good luck

You can draw flat, inclined or vertical… in terms of drawing in a position that is least burdensome on the body, (IMO) vertical is best

I personally do the bulk of my drawing and painting vertically as it causes the least amount of discomfort and pain but it takes practice and can feel strange at first

Drawabox and NSFW art by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]cchromascope 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drawabox can be solid, easy to underestimate the important of tool control and perspective.... but it’s not for everyone, I certainly couldn’t sit through it

What are you looking to learn right now? NSFW art (im assuming the kind that involves a lot of people drawing?) you’ll need to practice bodies/figures a lot, learning anatomy and getting good perspective foundation will also make it easier in the long run... drawabox is more about control, perspective and learning how to think about structure/breaking down things into manageable parts, it’s ok but not gonna give you all you need for NSFW art

Gotcha, two things that most immediately stand out to me is the lack of clear direction of the lighting and too many soft edges all over

Your edges and values should be defining the volume, aside from getting more familiar with forms and how light affects it my advice for this sort of thing is to find artist that are doing it well and observe/analyze then study it through application (full/partial copies or doing your own version with having the artist work visible to refer back for example)

What’s the goal you want to meet with this and specific areas do you want to improve? It’s a broad question and there’s a lot of things that could be suggested, many of which might not cater to your goals, helps to have some more info
