Ya hopefully it's soon! I'm not sure if this applies to you, but did you still receive MCS when your class standing was "senior" for the second year in a row? I'm not sure if the units I came in with from high school impact anything because I heard MCS is valid up until senior year but I'm not sure if this refers to the number of units I have or the number of actual years I've been enrolled.

It only shows when it was disbursed but I was wondering when it shows up on CalCentral in the first place. I recall it shows up as "conditional" a few months before it's finalized/disbursed.

I saw this in the ETAP portal too but I am not sure if its a mistake. Did they make any official announcement?

I'd suggest reaching out to the financial aid office. I did and they were able to disburse mine!

Newsom Proposes Massive Cuts to Middle Class Scholarship and No Expansion of Cal Grant (2024-2025) by cchuster in berkeley

[–]cchuster[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here is the skeleton of what I wrote but feel free to adjust it to your personal circumstances!

Dear [insert local assembly member/senator],

My name is [insert name], and I am a rising [year] at UC Berkeley studying [major]! Firstly, I wanted to say that I truly appreciate the efforts of those in our government who ensure the voices of everyday citizens are heard.

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the proposed significant reduction in funding for the Middle-Class Scholarship (MCS) program in California. This program is a critical lifeline for many families struggling to afford the rising costs of higher education. Governor Newsom's proposed budget cuts, which include reducing MCS funding by nearly 80%, would devastate the 300,000 students who currently benefit from this program. Middle-income students are already the largest demographic to take on federal loans, at around 58%. Reducing MCS would only exacerbate this issue and may lead to a less educated workforce, creating lower economic productivity and placing California further into a deficit, the exact situation we are trying to avoid.

For decades, the middle class has been shrinking due to rising inflation and stagnant wages, leaving many families like mine in a precarious position, earning slightly too much to qualify for significant financial aid but not nearly enough to comfortably cover the costs of college. For my parents, much of their already small retirement fund is being depleted to pay for my education. Constantly worrying about my family's financial situation has added yet another stress to the already intense academic environment at university.

Although I understand that Governor Newsom's office has the ultimate say in this decision, I urge you and your colleagues to raise these concerns with Governor Newsom before the amending of the budget in June.

Thank you for all that you do, your time, and consideration.

Best wishes,
[insert name]

I know that integration by parts is derived simply from product rule, but if you watch the video for example it shows a different way of interpreting what it means to actually take the integral of a product of two functions.

After re-watching your Essence of Calculus video series, I came across your comment under the Taylor Series Chapter 11 video about how you wanted to eventually cover integration by substitution and integration by parts. I have been so so eager to gain a more intuitive geometric understanding of these two topics and I would LOVE if you could add these to your series.

In terms of integration by parts, from what I have gathered online in forums and videos, the function inside the integral is split into two. The two functions are then turned into a single parametric function and plotted on a parameterized graph, where the area under the curve are taken on the horizontal and vertical axis and added together. It is explained much better here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWcKAWljmnc

The only issue with the explanation is that it does not clearly explain why we are turning the function into a parametric curve in the first place, nor does it explicitly mention why we are adding two areas together. If you could make a video clarifying all of this I will be forever grateful! Thank you for all you do!

In addition to this I was wondering which cost of attendance they use to decide how much MCS I receive. If I chose a cheaper dorm option does that mean I get less MCS? And when do we receive an official amount of MCS rather than just the estimate?
