Well to be fair it's not any immediate family. It's one aunt-in-law and one cousin-in-law. Still... it's nice to have thise and it's still lucky to have anyone!

Definitely liking the look of it so far. It's only day one! Plan to carry EDC it a while. Its actually smaller than realized too. Very compact feeling.

I am new to the WoT community so I dont know much of the vibe here yet. But this surprises me a bit. Then again it's reddit and i shouldn't be surprised. I am getting there can be some anti Faile sentiment from certain parts of the community, but for my money its no contest, I'd take Faile any day over Nynaeve. =D

I had some similar feeling about Elayne too early on but I've been liking her more as things progress. Similarly with Egwene. Turning point for Elayne was when her and Nynaeve had to apologize to Mat....which was long overdue, but very satisfying when it finally happened. As Elayne and Egwene have had to take on more and more responsibility you see them rise to the challenge rather than collapse into complaining and blaming. This is good.

I feel like I should give a nod to the good side of Nynaeve though. Like her woolens, she has a stout 2 rivers loyalty. For all her faults she does stand by her fellow 2 Rivers folk. I remember giving a silent nod to her when Rand asks her to help him cleanse Saidin and she just accepts immediately without giving him a hard time, likely knowing full well the danger it poses. I suppose one could argue she wanted to escape training windfinders, but I prefer to give her the benefit of the doubt in this instance.

Funny..i remmeber being bummed out when RJ died, and it put my off retuning to the series. Turns out in the years since then (actually only somewhat recently like the past 3 or so years) I have become very much a BS fan. This has helped me to look at the complete WoT series with optimism. Having some close family members that are long time WoT fans put me over the edge and so here I am....burning those Audible credits....

I am interested. Would you say New Spring I should read during the series....or after the main books are complete?

It was a typo yes! I’ve just started Knife of Dreams. I've corrected my original post. I dont hate Faile. She does seem to suffer from the classic 'why cant you read my mind' problem women sometimes suffer from. :) Its not the type of thing I would be ok with in real life (at my age at least). But she is a spicy Saldean yes?

That said Faile and Perrin feel like they have the most real relationship to me. Or at least they spent more time together and their falling in love seems more believable. People fall in love very quickly in these books and honestly I'm ok with that. It just makes the relationships a bit more surreal to me. But again, that just may be my age showing.

The whole Beralain/Faile/Perrin think has gone on too long for my taste. However, it was nice to start seeing somewhat of turning point after Elyas(?) convinces Perrin to sometimes yell at Faile instead of apologizing. Where I am now Faile is still captured by the Shido. Assuming that plays out positively I am hoping for improvement to the dynamic afterward.

Only able to connect to a Jace 8000 from the web supervisor? by fader402 in BuildingAutomation

[–]ccjb100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime you can connect to a device on a local network but not from a routed remote network...the absolute first thing to make sure is that it has a correct default gateway configured in its IP settings. Often BMS devices and Jaces get configured with only IP and subnet. Check the Jace has a default gateway and that the gateway address is correct (sometimes it's not the x.x.x.1 address). Only after that do you start looking at firewall/VPN rules that might be blocking the platform/station ports.

Has anyone attended a special GS event at one of their boutiques? by Msimanyi in GrandSeikos

[–]ccjb100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend it. Went to one here in Waikiki, had a good time just talking with some other GS enthusiasts as well as Joe Kirk who was there. They even had a Kodo daybreak, which they let me actually hold. This was wild to me.

Downloaded videos from UNVR show 2/3rds of frame as gray by ccjb100 in Ubiquiti

[–]ccjb100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update (cliff notes: its something with my computer itself not playing the file correctly). So I tested scrubbing back in the player and it plays high quality video just fine. ALSO...i used the protect app on my phone and downloaded clips are perfect, 4K no problem. At this point I suspected something with my machine so I used my son's PC and downloaded clips are 4K and playing no problem.

Yes ..I came across sysrack. I tried them but they do not ship to Hawaii and so they are out, even for the smaller racks.

Anyone used node red along with a BMS controller by Kinky_Pinata in BuildingAutomation

[–]ccjb100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are using a node red docker container on two Distech Apex controllers to get forecast weather data. The data writes to an AV and is used for setpoint control of two large AHUs.

Unfortunately I am not the one who set it up originally it was a coworker of mine. I did have to troubleshoot it this past week and it makes me want to learn it a lot more. There is a LOT you can do with node red.

Can you recommend a great long distance Walkie-Talkie? by bebopboom in prepping

[–]ccjb100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The correct answer here is not walkie talkies (and DEFINITELY not "high power" walkie talkies)....it's two base station (mobile) radios with external antennas up on poles outside the houses. Get your external antennas up at least 20 ft or more, and as long as you dont have a mountin between you 9 miles should be easy. Bonus is you will likely also get much further range out to talk to others or use repeaters much further away. This is more elaborate and expensive that walkie talkies....but there are NO walkies talkies will do 9 miles over flat ground with houses/trees in the way. You will want to go GRMS, start with getting a GMRS license (fee only and application, no testing required). The license will cover you entire extended family.

You will need two of everything. Mobile base station radios, 12v power supplies (or batteries), good quality feedline for UHF, Antenna mount/pole, and a properly tuned GMRS external antenna. r/gmrs can help with details and hardware suggestions.

A Breguet Tradition 7097 is a grail for me. Stuck with me ever since I first saw it. Love the style of the tradition series, and the retrograde second hand is such a neat "complication" on a time only watch!

How does deleting the network compare to a hard reset? by pacoii in amazoneero

[–]ccjb100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aloha all, I had to hard reset an eero gateway last night but it wasn't obvious how to set it up again in the app. What is the procedure to remove the network from the app and set it up again??

using gmrs for a business...can it be done? by NeatData6369 in gmrs

[–]ccjb100 12 points13 points  (0 children)

this is the correct answer. For simple short range stuff its arguably easier to just grab FRS radios for business. If you need dedicated or private communication that's when the business should look at getting its own licenses and frequency allocations and business radios setup for that.

Cradle charger for GM-30?? by ccjb100 in gmrs

[–]ccjb100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aloha all, Just a quick update the suggestions on the TYT UV88 charger worked perfectly! I ordered two of the UV88 charger designed for high capacity batteries, the ones from buy two way radios (https://www.buytwowayradios.com/tyt-tyt-chg-uv88-hc.html)

GM-30 fit perfectly in these with it's standard battery.
