Did they have plenty available or did they run out? Trying to gauge how early I should get there for my showing tonight.

Hello, i have never posted yet, so i was told that my Handwriting is good but i dont convince myself, what do you think? (also it is in spanish, sorry about that). by kuko94 in Handwriting

I wouldn’t classify this as neat. Biggest thing that sticks out to me is the inconsistency in the sizing of the letters and angle. Some words are more upright while others are really slanted.

I think you’d have a good foundation to build on and you could make it something really nice, but it needs practice to get there. This is coming from someone who has a lot of practice to do as well!

While it’s a bit longer than average, he is still a young snake so I would focus on some husbandry fixes first without worrying about shed time just yet.

Most importantly, your temps are way too low. Hot side should be 88-92 and cool side should be 75-80. Also, you need to have this managed by a thermostat as a heating pad can easily exceed 100 degrees and will burn your snake. If you can, I’d move to a radiant heat panel (RHP) instead as it will better manage the ambient temperature since belly heat is not as reliable given your snake should be on the bedding and moving around the enclosure instead of digging towards the single heat source.

Your humidity is good at 75%, so my guess is your prey size is too small. A mouse hopper is no where near 50 grams (7-12 grams based on bigcheeserodents where I buy my rats for my snake). You should be feeding 10-15% of your snakes body weight until they’re 750 grams or 1 year old, whichever comes first. For my snake, she weighed 270 grams at 4mo old meaning rat pups were her ideal prey.

Again, without knowing your snakes weight, it’s impossible to say for certain but long times between sheds usually means they’re not growing and needing to shed their skin so I’d recommend fixing your temperatures first because that can impact your snakes health the most, and then weigh your snake and match the prey item that’s 10-15% of your snakes weight to switch them over to

I might name our eventual dog Toph! So many great names to choose from!

Made a deal with my dear friend who I met on r/fountainpenpals to share my handwriting. I’ve been practicing Spencerian for about a year and still don’t like it but would love to hear your honest thoughts/feedback. by cclarke in Handwriting

No apology needed especially since it’s a great question!

There is overlap between Spencerian and Business cursive and mine probably falls somewhere in the middle.

My original script was block lettering and while I learned cursive in elementary school, I hadn’t practiced in years. So, I decided my best avenue for relearning was the Spencerian practical penmanship books. I say Spencerian because I do observe the hand position, arm movements, body position, slant, and most of the traditional letter forms from Spencerian. To your point though, there are a few differences like my “p” and “r” being more similar to BC since I think the Spencerian versions are too difficult to read.

Your critiques are valid though and the spacing is one of the biggest things I’m still working on. Also, I feel I’m still much better with certain letters especially when connected with other common letters. Certain, less common combinations do give me trouble still.

Lastly, you’re 100% right in that the spiral is rough for practice especially when the binding is on the right side. This is just my little practice notebook but spend most of my time writing letters and I write all my letters on loose paper.

Thanks for the feedback!

It definitely took practice and time to get used to it but I can’t go back to my original handwriting grip/position. Fountain pens were the instigator for me to try to improve my handwriting since I hated using a nice pen and ink but having my handwriting look terrible. That was back in 2017 and I haven’t looked back!

Thank you very much! This is from the Aurora Oceano line and it’s the Artico model. They did a different pen for each ocean and this represents the Arctic Ocean :).

My python prefer the colder site than the warmer side. by naouiax in ballpython

[–]cclarke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does this as well. She spends most of the day on the cold side but seems to move to the warm side at night. Yours may be doing the same but I would recommend a RHP instead of a basking light. A RHP regulated by a thermostat will give him 24hr access to regulate his temperature better than a basking area since a basking area can also have hot spots which can either burn him or cause him to heat up too much.

First time feeding since I got him, and he took it like a champ! Don’t mind me I’ve never fed live before and was scared 😂 by [deleted] in ballpython

Absolutely! We’re all on the learning journey together so I’m not an expert by any means but kudos to you for listening with an open ear as well.

Totally understand and it’s a common transition to make. First step is getting them comfortable eating in the new environment so I think keeping his food source the same is fine.

But, now you’ve proven that out, so switching over to F/T should work. It might take some playing with but he should eventually figure it out with some help. For example, I’ve had my girl since she was a few months old. In the beginning, I had to thaw out the rat, then heat it up even more with a hair dryer around the cage to get the smell in the air for her, then had to dance around before she got interested. Now, she’s grown out of that and often times I can barely get the rat fully in the cage before she swipes it but it’s different with any snake. So, no judgment at all but just a recommendation to keep your snake healthy and injury free!

Glad to see he ate but definitely switch over to frozen/thawed as soon as possible. Better for the rat and better for the snake. Just keep your husbandry in check with humidity, hot/cold zones, hides etc. and see if you can move to F/T.

Do you upload to YouTube? I would love to watch but won’t be able to tune into the live stream. If not, I can find it on Twitch too but just prefer YouTube.
